How about it folks ... I'm dying over here ...

I put the Trans in Drive, it pulls forward ... I put it in Reverse, it doesn't
even try to move at all ...

Note: The Trans was serviced (new fluid) recently.

HELP !!! ... I need to get this Baby back in action.

There is a fella named Edahall around here somewhere who I believe has experience servicing the THM-440. You could PM him for some insight but even if he knows what it is, it's still most likely going to be crazy expensive. Not alot can be done to the trans without pulling it from the vehicle and that alone is probably somewhere between $800 and $1200. Whether you have it replaced with a junkyard unit, a new unit, or have it rebuilt, you're still looking at big bucks. Is the car really worth it? Call around and see if you can get some free estimates....

Okay ... I have dropped the trans pan again, checked for anything loose or broken, added new fluid (again) to the proper level and trans still does not function in Reverse.

Please Note: Prior to servicing the trans, it worked okay ... I changed the fluid as preventive maintenance.

If anyone has access to ALLDATA, please check their Diagnostic Section for this Transmission, then let me know what it says.

Thanks very much for your time.

OK, heres some info from the troubleshooting section of my factory service manual. Same trans, THM440 T4:

NO REVERSE

INSPECT COMPONENT FOR CAUSE

Fluid Pressure High or Low

Reverse Servo -Misassembled,
-Piston or seal damaged
-Wrong apply pin

Oil pump assembly

Input clutch Accum. Piston -Seal Damaged

Drive Link Assembly

Reverse Band -Burned, damaged, mislocated

Input clutch

Reverse reaction drum -Splines damaged

Input sprag

Input and reaction carriers

-END-

You need to take it to a professional. None of those items can be inspected with the transmission in the vehicle. Refer to post #9. Sorry bout your luck dude.

I was just thinking..... maybe check the linkage between the shifter and the trans. I read somewhere that there was a recall about a c-clip coming off which would disconnect it from the trans....

EDIT: Heres the recal I was talking about http://www.automotive.com/1990/49/cadillac/seville/recalls/61062.html it doesnt look like it affects your year. But its still something to check out. Maybe the cable is just loose enough to not engage reverse. Its a shot in the dark...

If you take it to a shop, let us know what they find.
