posted this on another forum but wasn't sure if that was the right place for it,

I'll start off by saying I don't know much about engines, nor do I know the majority of the parts, now my seville starts just fine when it's warm though it dies everytime we get below freezing. when the RPMs get around 1600 and higher the engine starts making a loud knocking noise, which gets MUCH louder if I take off the part that holds the air filter (has the long bolt going through to the top and uses a sort of round wing knut to hold it down)... the engine is a 4.1 liter, I have many problems getting up to speed quickly and before finding this site I was sure it was just a problem in the engine now I think it's just the engine... but if i can find a way to stop the knocking sound I'll be happy and not feel so at risk when driving as this is my only vehicle and I'd very much love to restore it.

I'm also looking for a new reservoir for the wiper fluid, I had to take off the old one because the pump's hose inside the tank is broken off and i do not know if I need to get a whole new reservoir or if I can just get it fixed.

the passenger-side front wheel is supposed to have 5 knuts holding the wheel to the umm axle/brakes/car? it has 5 bolts but I can only get 4 knuts on as one of the bolts is severely stripped and only half as long as the rest, can I get this fixed?

I apologize for my lack of automotive knowledge and likewise for my bad terminology, if anyone has any suggestions they'll be greatly appreciated, there is one cadillac dealer near me but I haven't called to see if they do repairs so this is my first step towards restoring my Caddy

one more problem, the computer system frequently flashes "system problem" and occasionally the display blacks out I can't see this is a good thing, easy fix? i really hope...

I did the oil change but my book doesn't say anything about how to reset the computer so it'll stop saying service soon, engine's approximate total miles at 117k since I bought it in October I've driven about 320 miles, one other question and I'm very sorry for so many but is it normal for the gas consumption to be around 10 mpg? it's a v8 but most the people I've talked to agree that it seems really bad for such a small car

I have an '83 4.1 Broughm. The lug bolt is no problem. Any tire store or mechanic can fix it and some will tell you how to do it yourself. You can buy the lug bolt at most auto parts stores and many have mechanics working there who can advise you. You will probably have to rent a wheel stud removal tool to remove the old stud. Mount the new stud, put a lot of washers over the stud and use a lug nut to tighten and force the new stud into position.

My '83 got better mileage so you probably should also. You probably need to perform a tune-up. Install new spark plugs and wires. Call rippy Cadillac and get a good price and correct parts. Replace PCV valve. Of course replace the air filter. You might have to follow the vacuum lines and find any leaks. The leaks will probably be at the line ends.

Can't help with the windshield reservoir but you might find a used on somewhere.

By the way, regarding the lug bolts. Be sure to get professional advise just in case I don't know what I am talking about.

Good Luck.

haha well at least someone has some advice, the air filter was black when I bought it in october so that's been replaced though I went through three autostores to find one, the plugs are new but I'm not sure how old the wires are, they look good though.

I'll probably try the lug bolts when I change the tires, front passenger has a slow leak and both rear tires are going bald so just gonna buy new ones
