Help! In an attempt to remove the t-stat on my 84, one bolt broke off. While attempting to drill it out while still on the car, the bit broke. Now I am at the point where I think i need to pull off the water pump in order to get the bolt out of the housing. The housing itself appears to "float" on a fitting from the block and on the throat of the pump. Can this be removed without pulling the pump? If the pump needs to be pulled is there anything special that I need t be aware of? Thanks in advance.

I'm not quite sure where, but I already answered this post. As I recall, I told him that the t-stat housing is replacable as a seperate unit. It's sandwiched in between the waterpump and the engine.
Anytime you have a broken bolt, you have a couple choices, drill it out and re-tap or just replace the unit. In this case, the broken tap may have made his decision for him. It will all depend on his skills as to whether the broken tap can be removed or not. Whithout seeing the job, it's impossible to comment further.
