1977 Coupe DeVille, Follow in Dope's footsteps?

I found this on craigslist, project car?

I have a Black 1977 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. It has a few rust spots but in general the body is in good condition and only has 73,000 miles. The engine will start if gas is poured down the carburetor and jumped. It needs new brake lines.

It has been in a garage for 12 years and I just don't have time to restore it.

It has historical plates (so no e-check required) and I have a clean title. I'll take $550** or best offer. Payment must be in cash. (**Parts alone will net you more than $550)

Sure, go for it. Then you could be "pimpin77"!
Go for it!

Sure, but didn't you just sell your '88 for the same reasons?

Yea, but I just saw this thing and it was wishful thinking. When I go out and take a look at it, if it is super clean underneath and the rest of the body doesn't have much rust I'll probably get it. My guess though is that it is going to be rusted quite a bit. :tisk:

I know this era Cadillac used zincrometal body panels that, although not rustproof, they were rust resilient and held up realtively well. I imagine your seller's remorse from the '88 has settled in, and this DeVille looks like a decent car from the pictures. Being Cadillac-less is agonizing, and this would be a fine ride for the money. You may be even to haggle a bit on price, but I wouldn't expect the seller to budge too much. This is an opportunity that, if passed up, you'd likely regret down the road. My unsolicited $.02.
And if nothing else, you could always find a Cimarron to fill the Cadillac void. :stirpot:
It has potential, but I thought you were done being a hero, and wanted to find something that didn't need a full restoration. You can get a really clean caddy for under 5k.

The smart money is always to find something clean vs restoring something not so clean.

Too true. And, no matter what you do to this car, or how well done it is, you'll never get out a fraction of what you put in. Of course, it all depends on what your motivations are and whether or not this car speaks to you and you decide you just can't live without it. Good luck whatever your decision.

The best thing about having the 76 DeVille is when I don't wanna put money into it, I don't have to. Project cars do their share of sittin' around. No registration or insurance to pay for. Go for it and just sit on it until you can afford to do anything. I've only sunk $1.48 into mine so far.......

Fuzzy dice must come pretty cheap these days.

Sorry. Couldn't help myself. :stirpot:
Or, like Wheelman, well under $2k.

LOL...That's the only lucky break I got in my life.

I would def go for it...Besides black is one of the nicest comlpimenting colors on the 77.

Really? I always think the opposite is true, that the lighter colors complement this body style better. Matter of preference, I suppose.

I'm inclined to agree in most cases, but for some reason I really like the 77-79 body style in black. Especially with red interior. I think Bens friend has a 79 Coupe D Black over red and I think it's beautiful.

Bwahaha. Lightbulbs actually......
If you think that picture is beautiful, you should see it in real life. The pics don't do anything for it. By the way, he lowered the price to $7,500. But that still seems on the high side to me. And I don't think if myself as a cheap person. It has 80k miles on it, but was always garaged and never driven in the rain. It has a couple imperfections, but still makes mouths water.
