The glove box button and trunk key not opening the trunk.

I have the rear seats out but am too big to climb over the top to access the trunk space.

Can someone please advise how to open the trunk?

Thank you.

has the trunk been slammed recently or the key for the trunk cylinder break off in there?

Have you check the fuses? or does the 75 model not use the electronic trunk latch?

----------

sorry meant electric trunk latch

Thanks for the reply.

I've had the car for 20 years and have not slammed it shut.

No key break-off.

Yes it is an electronic pull down.

I'm not aware of a trunk mechanism fuse.

There is no mention of a fuse for the trunk mechanism in the '75 Shop Manual or Service Manual.

there must be a fuse for the pull down -
probably tied into another circuit -

but that won't have any affect on the key lock -

Pull the glove box push button switch out, and with the key on, verify voltage to one of the wires to the switch. If no power, its a blown fuse most likely. Regarding the key not working, press down on the lid while turning the key. I'm thinking the pull down is misadjusted and has the lid too low to release with the key.

I thought about that too -
but wouldn't that amount of tension on the latch -
prevent the key from being turned?

Thanks for the replies.
I pulled the glove box switch and confirmed there is power.
I have tried pressing down on the lid and turning the key, but that didn't work.
I have noticed the TRUNK OPEN light lit on the instrument panel, but the trunk would not open.
When I tried to lift the trunk open, nothing happened.
When I pushed down on the trunk, the light went out.

Push down on the trunk & have someone else push the button. Or jump the button wires in case the switch is bad.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Just returned from being away and my (much shorter but not a midget!!) mechanic was able to climb into the trunk and open it.

We found the green wire had been eaten by mice, plus the tumbler in the key lock was jammed.

Replaced the green wire and a locksmith overhauled the tumbler and the trunk opens easily and the pull down unit works fine.

Thanks again - much appreciated!!
