Hi!

I recently bought my first cad. 472+400 original.

Pretty ok but little fix.

Above 30mph vibrates strong but not in neutral. Universal joints? I already ordered those but shipping takes some days.

Automatic climate control leaks, whispering noise when I but it on. Blower goes high when I but defrost, all other positions it's low. Normal?

No warm coming either in cabin.

Is air cushion warning light in all models including models without bag?

Stars very good and choke works but in warm engine, vibrates in idle. Not engine mounts, something on distributor or carb? This is HEI.

:welcome:

A constant vibration at all speeds above a certain speed certainly suggests an imbalanced driveshaft. Universal joints area good place to start. The whispering in your AC system indicated a vacuum leak, likely at the programmer based on your symptoms. All 74 Cadillacs will have a provision for the air bag light on the dash, but unless you have a four spoke steering wheel, you don't have the air bag system, which in any case is really rare. The engine vibration at idle coule be related to your vibration at speed, or a misadjusted carb. If you haven't already, purchase a factory service manual for your car. It will make diagnosis much easier. They're available all day long on ebay for not much money.

Good luck!

Thanks for fast answers! This is my number 15 v8 American car, I can do all in DIY but cad is cad :) I mean 4 joint driveshaft and other cadillacs special things.

I have normal steering wheel, good to know that light thing.

There was no option packages except d'elegance? Options were mixed and free choice able?

Yep, back then most options were stand alone items so the buyer could order a car to his taste.

When i drive rough spots on road (not speed bumbs) interior and windshield rattles very bad. All items are attached etc. No clonks or voices.

What it can be?

When changing the duel U joints, you must put them both together at the same time. If you put one in complete you can not get the second one in..

Hood stops... I dont even thinked those, thanks! Hood is lifted up in drives side rear.

Yeah u joints were pretty job, much heat and big hammer. Driveshaft is little bit banana, someone has hitted it on rocks etc but now its way better. 60mph,and over slightly vibrating. I can fix it by two hose clamps I think.

When I press full throttle, engine almost stalls and says patatatata. Acceleration pump? In neutral it does same but not so bad and if I rise rpm slower it stands full throttle in neutral.
Carb is original quadrajet.

Front brakes stalled too, maybe bad hoses or caliper won't return :(

Hood bushings was gone in rear. I changed front bushings there and i did rubber ones in front.

Hood is loose in rear, if I press it it clonks. Hope adjustment of pads helps.

New hardware kit on caliper, left has rusty cylinder but hope it will last couple months.

If someone has devile too, i would be thankful for height measures of front and rear hood bushings. That what you can adjust like bolt and nut.

Two red/blac vacuum hoses were off. Those are in one connector. I but it middle of dash blac clock. Now bi leven, vent etc positions work. That red/black vacuum hose number 2 is automatic brake release, where it comes? Hose is pretty short so it can be anywhere.

Also black/blue vacuum hose is off, where that comes? Under steerin column.

Also something happened, main electric of car is gone, no lights on dash. Only headlights works. Is there main fuse somewhere?

What is box in drivers side under hood where is rubber button and "start"?

I have a 70 so it may be different. If I remember correctly, coming off the starter where the positive cable connects are 3 wires with fuseable links. One goes to the fuse block, 1 goes to the headlight switch, and I forget where 3rd goes. You have probably blown the fuseable link to the fuseblock. I can't look it up right now because we are looking at moving and everything is packed. Look down by the starter and you will see them. The links are large round things on the wire itself. See if one is broken and/or deformed.

I order new fusible links, 10, 12 and 14 just in case. Those are pretty rare in ny country.
