ok so there is a big transmission leak or something. my tranny fluid is leaking out fast . leaves a big thick line when i drive and i can only drive 20 feet for fear of blowing it. how do i fix this problem . what is this problem:bomb:

Get under the car and see where the leak is coming from. If it's the pan gasket, drain the rest of the fluid, pull the pan and run a new gasket and change the filter while you're in there, then refill and go. There are a few other places that the leak could be coming from but in my experiance the pan gasket is usually the culprit.

Does it quit leaking shortly after the engine is shut off? It could be the front pump seal. The trans has to come out to fix this. All labor. Parts cheap. Could also be a cooling line.

Also inspect the tailshaft seal (where the driveshaft connects). When i first go my car that seal was cracked... it didnt spew out like yours but it leaked fair enough. If its that then your in the clear! Its a cheap seal and will take 20 minutes to replace. (Be careful of a torrent of tranny fluid when you pull the driveshaft out!)

If it's leaving a thick trail like he describes, I'd think it is some place with the trans fluid under pressure. Probably the front pump seal, or a leak at a cooling line.

Thats true... i would check the lines while the car is running, the front seal has to be checked under load and thats impossible... however there should be some leakage at idle, just get under there and check it out!

You can tell the front main seal because ATF will be originating from the torque converter cover. Gotta be careful telling that though because it will also get flung on everything behind it if you have driven the car on the highway.
Also, if you remove that cover and let the engine idle, it will make a huge fan of ATF on the ground from the converter flinging ATF off in all directions. Removing the converter cover could also result in lots of smoke because it will fling ATF on the hot exhaust pipe. I went through this after an engine rebuild on my Camaro. Freaked out because I thought I'd screwed up the rebuild!

hey i have 1969 cadillac Deville an i have oil leaking thru torque conveter cover hole at bottom of cover does anyone know where it can be coming from

If fluid is red probably converter seal if engine oil rear main seal.
