Hi,

We purchased a new FOB and are trying to program it with our 2013 SRX. Instructions say to turn the key to unlock position five times with in ten seconds. Then the Driver Information Center should display "Ready to Learn Electronic Key". See Step 5 below, but we never get pass this step because the Driver Information Center never comes on.

Does anyone know what we are doing wrong?

Here are the instructions we are following.....

1. Vehicle must be off.
2. Place the working remote(s) in the cupholder. Have the new remote with you.
3. Insert the key into the key lock cylinder located on the outside of drivers door.
4.Turn the key to the unlock position five times with in ten seconds.
5. The (DIC) Driver Information Center displays Ready to Learn Electronic key #2, 3, 4 ETC.
6. Place the new remote into the transmitter pocket with the buttons facing the front of the vehicle. (The transmitter pocket is inside the center console between the driver and front passenger seats). The storage area will need to be opened and the storage tray lifted up to access the transmitter pocket.
7. Press the ignition. When the remote is learned the DIC display will show that it is ready to program the next remote.
8. Remove the remote from the transmitter pocket and press unlock on the remote. To program additional remotes, repeat Steps 6 through 8.
9. When all additional transmitters are programmed, press and hold the ignition for ten seconds to exit programming mode.

Thanks for your help, Deb

I believe the problem is due to you only have 1 working remote. You NEED 2 good remotes to program a 3rd one. If not, you must "Relearn" ALL the remotes (see procedure B). Try this procedure, which will require 30 to 35 mins. Watch the video for clarity. How To Program A Cadillac SRX Smart Key Remote Fob 2010 - 2016 - YouTube

GM Smart Key Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Programming:

(A) Programming with 2 Recognized Transmitters or key fobs.
A new RKE transmitter can be programmed to the vehicle when there are 2 recognized RKE transmitters. To program the vehicle must be off, and all of the RKE transmitters, both currently recognized and new, must be with you.

1. Place the recognized RKE transmitters into the storage bin with the lock icon.
2. Remove the key lock cylinder cap.
3. Insert the vehicle key of the new RKE transmitter into the key lock cylinder located on the outside of the driver door and turn the key counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The DIC displays READY FOR REMOTE #3, 4 or 5.
4. Place the new RKE transmitter into the storage bin with the buttons facing up.
5. Press ENGINE START/STOP. When the RKE transmitter is learned, the DIC will show that it is ready to program the next transmitter.
6. Remove the RKE transmitter from the storage bin and press UNLOCK. To program additional RKE transmitters, repeat Steps 3–5.When all additional RKE transmitters are programmed, press and hold ENGINE START/STOP for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
7. Put the key back into the transmitter.

(B) Programming without a Recognized Transmitter or only 1 good key fob.
If no currently recognized RKE transmitters are available, follow this procedure to program up to eight RKE transmitters. This procedure will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The vehicle must be off, and all of the RKE transmitters you wish to program must be in the vehicle! Your dash or DIC may go dark or blank out during this procedure, which is completely normal. Simply open and close the driver's door to refresh the dash display.

1. Remove the key lock cylinder cap from drivers door.
2. Insert the vehicle key of the RKE transmitter into the key lock cylinder located on the outside of the driver door and turn the key to the unlock position, counterclockwise, 5 times within 10 seconds. The DIC displays REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
3. Wait for 10 minutes until the DIC displays PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN and then press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The DIC will again display "REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT".
4. Repeat Step 2 two additional times. After the third time (3 x 10 = 30 mins), all previously known RKE transmitters will NO longer work with the vehicle. The remaining RKE transmitters can be relearned during the next steps. The DIC should now display READY FOR REMOTE # 1.
5. Place the new or next RKE transmitter into the storage bin with the buttons facing up.
6. Press ENGINE START/STOP. When the RKE transmitter is learned, the DIC will show that it is ready to program the next transmitter. READY FOR REMOTE #2, etc. etc.
7. Remove the RKE transmitter from the storage bin and press UNLOCK. To program additional RKE transmitters, repeat Steps 5–6.
8. When all additional RKE transmitters are programmed, press and hold ENGINE START/STOP for 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
9. Remove the key from the exterior door and put it back into the transmitter. Replace the key lock cylinder cap

I've added two fobs. The first go around the DIC went dark on me. Procedure still worked, but the car had to sit awhile. At first it seemed like a fail. A half hour later it was working. Go figure. The 2nd time, thinking time is of the essence, I did it as fast as I could and got it done before the DIC timed out. No issues and it literally took about 60 seconds start to finish. Also that first fob never worked quite right and only lasted a year. When buying aftermarket, all fobs are not created equal.
