I have been searching for information on this topic, but only see some CTS-V info. I am looking at hardwiring my Escort Radar into my car so that when the car turns on, the radar starts up, and when the car is off the radar power is off. I have always used "add a fuse" to clip into the power, but do not know where to tap. I do not want to tap into the rearview mirror. I prefer the detector of the windshield and running the cord down the driver's side pillar. Any help would be appreciated. Step by step even more! Thanks!

Send my your personal email and I will send a how-to. I have a "CTS Knowledgebase" that has this included. Actually, even though I have a writeup, I ran a hot wire to under my hood, up my A pillar and across to my mirror area. All wires concealed, of course.

How did you get to the wire? And you are talking about the cigarette lighter right? Thanks!

"Using a trailer wire connector, I tapped the power line to the console outlets that runs along the bottom edge of the right side of the console, under the carpet."

You are talking about the passenger side, correct? Do you remember which outlet line you tapped into? Thank you again. I am trying to use the "mute button" under the steering wheel, so the closer I am to the steering wheel, the better.

I grabbed the passenger side carpet just below the console on the passenger side, about half way between the seat and the dash, and pulled it down until the carpet edge came out from the console. The wrapped wires that feed both Auxiliary Power Outlets (cigar lighter type socket) are just under the edge of the console.

I released the connector lock and disconnected the plastic connector at the dash end of the harness, and I unwrapped about an inch of the wires coming out of the rear half of the plastic connector. I turned on the ignition and used a $3 volt/amp/ohm meter to find the 12 volt contact in the front half of the plug, then clamped a trailer wire type tap-connector to the corresponding wire on the rear plug that feeds the Auxiliary Power Outlets. Plug the connectors together and turn the ignition on and off to test the wire, then push the carpet back under the edge of the console.

Forum member RAB posted wire info for a 2013:
a) RD/WH (Red/White) colored wire for the +12V feed (i.e. which is a switched "+" power feed coming from the Accessory Power Relay)
b) BK (Black) colored wire for the -12V feed
The key is.. look for a wire that is jacket color coded red/white - that's the switched +12V feed to all the accessory power receptacles in the CTS Coupe. The black colored wire(s) in a given power wiring harness represents -12V (negative 12V). Hope this helps.

He may be able to give you the same info for your 2009

Thanks Hauler and Tinman. I was hoping it would be simple enough to know where a switched 12v wire is, but sounds like it isn't. My prior cars had the fuse box on the driver's side so I could just use one of the "add-a-fuse" products and it made the process simple. Just looking at not trying to blow up my car. As states, I would love to position a "mute" switch somewhere close to the steering wheel. Thanks again.

I powered back up sensors off the Aux Power Outlet line and installed a small rocker switch in the plastic tilt wheel housing, just below and to the front of the ignition switch. It's handy.

You can always plug into a fuse socket in the back of the car and run a line all the way forward by tucking it under the door sill plates. I did.

I have the Escort remote. It's installed in the coin tray so that I can close the door and hide it.

Gohawks63,

Where did you connect it to? How did you do the install? I see you're a CTS-V so likely different. Hauler, I like your idea, but I do not believe the Escort direct wire will run that far, maybe if I extend the power cord I could tuck it, but seems like a hell of a lot of work for a radar detector. :)

I used to do my own installs but lately I just don't want to risk breaking interior trim parts. As a result for my last '12 Coupe, my BMW X5 and the V I paid an installer.

As I think I mentioned before it cost me $40 and was well worth it to me. I actually rayed and watched when he recently did the install on the V. He tapped into the power outlet in the coin tray and glued the remote in the coin tray. In order to do that he had to remove the lower console around the shifter.

marathonrock, V is no different from our car...except a couple of hundred + hp, lol.
That is correct. On all accounts. 238 HP if you have a 2012 or 2013 3.6 DI, 252 If you have the earlier 3.6 DI and 286 if you have the base, but who's counting? :)

I have my V1 installed with a BlendMount. That allows a tight and clean install tucked up to your rearview mirror. Makes your radar detector almost part of your mirror. You can use the Invisicord to power it, or do as I did and run a wire from under the hood fusebox, switched, and run it up the A pillar and hdden/tucked into the headliner to the mirror. I then ran my remote readout to the steering column and it is stuck on with double-sided sticky tape.

I was thinking of getting the Blendmount but I wanted my detector even further up out of visibility so it's mounted next to the RVM on the passenger side. Between the RVM and the visor.

Still using the crappy Escort bracket and suction cups. Occasionally I'll get in the car and see the detector hanging from its cord because the suction cups let go.

The V1 must be mounted with a clear view front and back for its two antennae.

I hate those cups which is why I tried the BlendMount. It is a quality piece, and I am pleased with it. That Florida sun just wreaks havoc on the cups.
