'10 Escalade filler neck leak at gas tank

Filled truck up on the way home and later went in the garage to retrieve a beer and notice strong gas smell. Upon investigation gas was leaking from tank where the filler neck goes into the tank. At some point before my ownership someone put what looks RTV sealant around the pipe going into the tank. I have had strong gas smells in the past but it never leaked enough to show on the floor.

Do you guys think i could clean off the old sealant and try to reseal or is it new tank time?

Maybe this is the answer to my random stalling within the first 5 or so miles of driving on a cold engine.

Sealant is NOT the answer to gasoline leaks. Total replacement/repair is.

The random cold stalls MIGHT be due to some EVAP (fuel tank pressure/vapor control) problem. Have the vehicle diagnostic system scanned at any parts store - AFTER repairing the fuel leak - one spark and you're dead or the house is burned in the middle of the night.

That’s the funniest, stupid repair I’ve seen in a long time. Fortunately it’s normal to replace the fuel pump & sender about every 10-12 years. Just work a new tank in with the pump replacement when it’s pull out for the job.

Not sure how the damage occurred but it’s definitely irreparable. Any recycling yard will have a Denali or Escalade 09-14 tank for you.
