Hey Guys, My wife called me tonight and said something was wrong with the truck. When I came home I started it and everything was fine. Pulled it out and about halfway down the street there was an awful rubbing clunking sound almost like you have no brake pads metal on metal. The brakes are good but the sound comes and goes. Any ideas wheel bearing maybe. It doesnt make the noise when I turn and it doesnt matter is I'm driving slow or fast. Has anyone else dealt with this issue

Sounds to me like your air ride is not working. Check to see if your ride height looks the same and if its lower than normal. If it is then you need to figure out why your air compressor is not filling the shocks with air. Could be busted shock, bad ride height sensor, bad compressor or blown fuse.

Thanks I will check. The sounds does sound like a tire rubbing bad but the height seems good. She is on factory 22's and sitting about 8 -10 inches above them and the sound happens when driving straight. My wife doesnt drive the truck hard hell she babies it. We only have 58,000 miles on it.

Well I checked in the daylight and you were correct. I measured tread of tire to bottom of the fenderwells. Pass side sits 5 1/2 inches and drivers side is 4 1/2 inches. could this be shock or is the escalade have 4 independent air bags. Sorry about my knowledge we have only had it for 9 months and traded our Navigator in for it due to air suspension issues.

aand010,

There is a "Service Suspension System" message that would appear in the Driver Information Center if there were to be a problem with the Road Sensing Suspension System (this system uses a computer controller to continuously monitor vehicle speed, wheel to body position, lift/dive and steering position of the vehicle; the controller then sends signals to each shock absorber to independently adjust the damping level to provide the optimum vehicle ride).

Keep us posted on your progress with this, and if you should require a visit to the dealership we're available to assist in that process where and how we can.

Sarah thanks for the update. I wish I had some progress. I dont know if its safe to drive or have it towed. I was hoping there was a known issue. searching the web and forum seems like I'm the only one

You don't always get an "service suspension system" light when you have a problem. I had a bad ride height sensor and had the same issue as you and never did have a light come on. I would start the car and let it idle 5 minutes and then reach through your rears wheels and squeeze the shock. If the rubber is not inflated enough that you cant compress the shock then your air ride is doing its job but if you can compressor the rubber on the shock then you have a problem somewhere. Your ok driving as I drove on mine for a month but its a really rough ride and slight tire rub.

----------

Also, if the shocks are found not be be getting air I would first check the 3-4 ride height link. It has 2 end on it and snaps onto a small round ball. Its possible one of the ends has popped of so its not tel compressor to inflate shock.

UPDATE............ I had my mechanic come over and drive the truck and then he jacked it up. Pass side tire had 3 inches off play and bearing is shot. I caaled Cadillac and they told me 496.00 for hub assembly. Auto Zone is 219.00 for oem. Am I missing something here. I'm going with auto zone. Is there any reason I shouldnt. My mechanic is charging 85.00 for labor which I thought was good. Family Friend

Depends on the manufacturer of the Hub... Timken and other manufacturers are called "OEM" by autozone employees and others because they meet the OEM specs, however a true OEM replacement would be AC DELCO which is the same price as well. I was told the same thing by my dealership for my 2007 and they wanted $600 per wheel bearing. I went on RockAuto.com and ordered 2 new Ac Delco's for $220 per hub I believe and got them within a couple days.
