Saw over at the CTS forum this sticker price:

Vehicle: 2008 CTS
Selected Style: CTS V6 DI PERFORMANCE SEDAN
VIN: 1G6DP57V880109171
Exterior: Thunder Gray Chromaflair Premium Paint
Interior: Ebony
MSRP: $48,335.00

You can buy a V-8 STS for that same sticker. Why would anyone buy a CTS (6-banger) at that price?

If I go to the Cadillac web site and look at STSs, the cheapest base price for a V8 is $52,555 before adding any options. After adding Nav, Sunroof and Premium paint (all on the CTS you quote) the STS comes in at $57K MSRP. The STS V8 is rated at 320 HP. The CTS you list is a V6 rated at 304 HP. Not much difference. Furthermore, the CTS you quote has the optional All Wheel Drive.

So, $48K for the CTS vs $57K for the STS. STS has only 16 more HP. CTS has AWD. So, the butter question would be "Why would anybody buy the STS?"

Just off the top of my head, the 2008 CTS V6DI gets better gas mileage, has a larger fuel tank (18 vs. 17), greater fuel range, newer and better interior design and assembly, music hard drive, retractable nav screen, larger sunroof, fold-down rear seat, lighter vehicle, new exterior design, probably holds it value better,... For it's cost, the STS needs the new interior, a larger fuel tank, and more rear leg room.

At a discussion with the General Manager at my dealer today. They think STS sales are going to be hurt badly by the new CTS.

Traditionally every manufacturer has an overlapping of vehicle pricing.

Fully loaded CTS running near lightly loaded STS models is normal for the industry.
