Hello,

I own a 2006 STS-V, I have a few questions/concerns I can't find info for...thought I'd ask the pro's.

First is what I think is a tranny issue, on downshift it clunks really hard going from 3rd down, upshifts are fine. This problem
comes and goes which is stranger yet. Any ideas?

Next is the push button, mine has a crack in it and just want to replace it for looks, what does it take to replace and where can I find the part??

Last one. What would you recommend for an exhaust. I'm not looking for a boost in HP just sound, I
want a low heavy sound. Thanks.

I'm new to this generation of STS also. I have noticed a few posts on the forum though where mention of a revised program from GM was developed to address a few quirks of the 6spd auto.

Out of curiousity, if it's something you can easily duplicate maybe try putting the shifter in Sport mode and seeing if it behaves the same way.

Not sure about the ignition switch but I'd look on eBay. I don't imagine it would be more difficult that just replacing the switch as there's no passkey system associated with the switch as in normal key ignition vehicles.

As for exhaust, I'm exploring that myself. I don't feel like spending the money on a Corsa or Borla system and have seen the Gibson mufflers talked about a bit and clips on youtube. The exhaust in modern cars flows pretty well and about the only improvement I see nowadays comes from muffler swaps. I'm thinkin about going the Gibson muffler route in the spring.

Thanks for responding Wake, the hard shift only comes up every now and then, I'm not seeing any trend in when it occurs just seems to be when it feels like it, although when the problem is occurring it will also do it in sport shifting mode. from third to second seems to be the worst. not sure wether it is sticking or if thats possible because im not big on car mechanics.

I'll look into the Gibson, thanks for the info

you can listen to my exhaust on youtube. look up boomys10 and youll see some vids of mine. as for the tranny issue, sounds more like the normal shifting trend honestly. they slam much harder into gear when you floor it in sport shift. if you want to test, you can ease into throttle to make it downshift then floor and see if it still does it. it a continuing issue, you can have a tune done and it will fix that. the button is like 40$ and the sts-v, and most of the GM push button cars use the same one. so you can prolly get any of them and itll work find. hope your enjoying the new toy.

Do you have the Spectre intake? If it's not tuned correctly your fuel trims will be beyond +/- 25% at times. The TCU increases line pressure to be safe when it can't calculate the fuel trims accurately. If you're completely stock...I don't know.

Thanks for the responses everyone, I'm interested in knowing more about your "get a tune to fix it" statement, what exactly do you recommended being done to the V? Also the CEL is on when this problems is occurring but also disappears along with the hard shifts

Your hard shifts are from the CEL. GM did that so you wouldn't drive it very far before you took it in for service.

As for what to be "Done". It depends on your taste, wallet size and what you are looking for. If you want ALL OUT buy Tims Turbo system from him. Otherwise change pulleys, upgrade injectors, Cold Air Intake, tune, upgrade intercooler pump, and Front Mount heat exchanger. As for the exhaust....... Change out the rear mufflers and tips ONLY first. If you remove the stock resonator in the front you will get drone. If I had to do mine again that is what I would do. You can look up mrschmidthead on you tube and listen to my Magnaflow exhaust.

Tackle one problem at a time dude. PGA2B is a great dude but he just laid out a bunch of upgrades. If you know you want to do some/all of them...then you're most economical bet is to go ahead and buy them all and install them. Then visit one of the guys on this forum (TimmyC, Wait4Me) or find a shop you trust in your area. Most guys at shops will yes you to death because they know everything. I once had a talk with a guy about my car for 20 minutes before he finally got through his head that this engine is not the 6.2L LSA. Tuning isn't rocket science, but there's still some science involved, so having an idiot tune your car isn't going to do you any good.

If you just want the car to work correctly right now and your happy with it in its current form call up Jesse or Timmy and ask if they could make you a tune based for just the intake (I'm assuming you have the Sprectre, you never answered me). That will solve your lean code issue and end the hard shifts.

I have everything stock, sorry I'm not sure if that's a "sprectre" I'm just getting into this and still a rookie.

Thats awesome to know thats for the response.

Also the Magnaflow sounds awesome, I'd love some more info on cost and installation.

I notice everyone is saying to contact TimmyC or Wait4me, where are they located. I live in Northern California if that means anything...

If your air intake that wraps around the Supercharger has what looks like "Mufflers" in the pipe then you have a stock intake. If yours has round tubes all the way from the split at the front of the Supercharger to the back then it is an aftermarket and is a Spectre or D3. When you get the CEL try to get a code pulled and post it.

(2) Vibrant 13070 60* Bends
(2) Magnaflow 14326 Mufflers
(2) Magnaflow 35121 4" Pro Tips

ONLY DO THIS NEXT STEP IF YOU WANT MORE AFTER YOU DO THE MUFFLERS!!

This is to replace the stock resonator.

(1) Magnaflow 10791 X-Pipe - WILD (What I started with) or (What I finished with) 12468 Tru-X Muffler - MILD

Read the code first so you know what's going on.

P.S. Those are the correct parts. They will have to cut the tips back but any good exhaust shop can do it.

Update: So I dropped the V off at the dealership for the hard shifting and a CEL, the code came up as what they told me is a "lean" code, there was something loose that had something to do with the air intake. They fixed that under warranty and that also got rid of my hard shifting.

My next project is the passenger door speaker, I have the Bose system which I'm sure is stock, as long as I can remember the speaker has sounded blown, but after researching some stuff I notice a lot of comments regarding this problem being just a GM problem, now that I've been really listening I think mine could also just be one of those annoying rattle and the speaker might be fine. What do you recommend I do to pad this down and is it a small enough project for me to accomplish by myself, as you can probably tell I have no experience with this type of work. Thanks for your time.

Can you post emails or numbers on how to get ahold of Timmy or Jesse? I installed the Spectre stage 1 & 2 cold air system and immediately got the hard shifts. I use HP Tuners. Thanks

You might Google the tuner's usernames to find out if they're still active. "cadillac forums pcm tuner (names)".
