'05 trans temp

2016 Views 20 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  the cadillac man
Hi folks. I dunno if my Esci is having problems or not. My trans temp guage sems to be reading unusually high; 150-250 'ish. It typically only runs just a smidge off the bottom reading and only rising to the first mark 125? if I sit idling for an extended period of time. It is shifting fine and pulls my trailer effortlessly so I can't tell if this is a case of TMI or not. Has anybody had any experiences with this?

TIA,

Mine used to run like that till i upgraded the cooler, probably didn't need to but I'm a lot more comfortable seeing my trans temp stay below half while towing thru the Arizona desert
^what he said my 03 has a upgraded tranny cooler and it does make a difference in the temps when towing in hot temps
I forgot to add that a cooler was added a few years ago when I ad the trans repaired. Also, the fluid is at the proper level and is cherry red in color.
What size is the cooler, i have the tru cool 40k
IDK. The trans was rebuilt by Dom Balducci about three years ago. He put the trans cooler on it then. I thoght about getting a flush but I'm not too convinced that is a good practice since the trans is a sealed system.
Oh ok, generally some trans shops require a cooler replacement to retain warranty on the rebuild so the cooler could still be stock equivalent
Yes, Balducci's Automotive pointed that out when he explained he put mine in series with the factory installation. Cooler installation aside, I think it is noteworthy this condition was sudden, not gradual. I made an appointment this afternoon with the dealer for an evaluation / repair. The cost of the checkout will be $140 or less if they can fix a minor problem. They did mention the '05 has a history of dash instrument pod assembly failure causing bad readings. I had noticed my tachometer pegged out a couple of times but reading normal now. I don't remember if the two incidents happened simultaneously or not. btw...I can't go back to Balducci's now (although I really wish I could) because I am on another side of the country now. He is in NJ and I'm in TX.
thats how my cluster went bad it started with tach pegging and also 05

Oh! OK! So when you cluster went bad, did you lose any functionality? The engine or power didn't shutdown or anything, just no or bad readings in the cluster?

Thanx for the input!

Yeah I'm in cali too and they are all up and down craigslist
they even sell rebuilt clusters with everything new with what ever color led's you want
Nothing on Craigslist in Michigan. Contacted a handful of repair facilities that I googled and they all said that they don't work on 02's. I'll keep looking. Cadillac man gave me a lead.
I read your last post and I looked for the guy who did my cluster and I found him but he only list 2003-2006http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/aos/4967819220.html

Well, I couldn't take the suspense any longer. I took the Esci to the dealer yesterday to be checked. I'll keep ya posted on the diagnosis.
OK folks. It turns out my instrument cluster is bad. They have to remove it and send it away to be rebuilt. The service manager said it would not cause any other failures. Over the weekend, my oil pressure gauge was pegged to the right. Cadillac wants $795 for the repair. Gotta thnk about it for awhile. Thanks to all for your input!
