Need a little help here.

I purchased a 6 CD player from Ebay for my 2005 Deville and installed in in the glove box as listed in other posts. Unit is play and play, no problems there. I could not get the unit to work, I disconnected the battery overnight and tried again to no avail. So thinking the CD player was the problem I bought another one. Now I am stuck with 2 units that are not working.

You can hear the CD's working and the dash radio even shows them playing, just no sound. It has Serius installed but not activated. Not sure if this or something else is the problem.

Thanks in advance for the help.

post the part number of the units that don't work -
the most common number for pre-2002 units was
25717804 - GUARANTEE - it will NOT work

the CD changer you need is from 2002 and newer
either from a Deville or Seville - AND NOTHING ELSE -

there are several part numbers that will work correctly -
the most common #12498049 and 25740088 WILL work -

even though all the GM 6 disc changers LOOK the same -
they don't all work in our Devilles -

Thanks for all the help here.

The first CD player is model 25740088, according to the vin it came from a 2005 Deville.

The most recent purchase is the same model number from a 2003 Deville.

Still puzzled, but looking for answers.

OK - from the very basics -

you have the factory radio in the car - is it a BOSE unit -

do you get sound from the radio and single CD player and tape player -

you have selected the correct SOURCE -
and you see the stack of CD's as an icon on the display -

the CD's are loaded CORRECTLY in the CD cartridge -

MUTE - is OFF - if you have MUTE -

what happens when you try playing a CD from the 6 disk changer -

does the display show DISC 1 - TRACK 1 -

when you use the steering wheel controls -

increase volume - do you get the bar on the display -
does the bar move with increase or decrease of volume -

skip to the next track - does it show TRACK 2 -

if you press the #5 radio DISC button - does it change to DISC 2 -
then DISC 3 - DISC 4 - etc -

are you playing burned CD's or store bought -

try ejecting the cartridge - shut the ignition OFF -
then turn ignition and radio ON - and install the cartridge -

I know it's a pain to get to -
but try unplugging - and plugging the 6 disc changer
with the ignition ON and radio ON -

It has Serius installed but not activated.
are you saying the factory radio includes a Serius tuner -
or do you have some sort of aftermarket Serius tuner installed -

Basscatt,
Factory radio works on radio and single CD mode.

Hooked up CD player 1, then 2 and both attempt to play the CD's.

All CD's were regular ones right out of the CD cases. They all play on other CD players. Loaded all 6 label up according to instructions on cartridge.

Went through all 6 CD's, the radio recognized the 6 CD player. Tried the random selection and it randomized the tracks and the CD's.

I even switched the cd cartridge holders from one to the other and the results were the same.

The 1-6 button in the middle of the radio will change from one CD to the next. So it appears all buttons function on the radio. Since both multi-CD players function the same way, I say it is either in the wiring from the cd player to the radio or the radio itself, in that order. I would be hard-pressed to condemn the radio since it appears to function and recognize everything as it should.

I will keep you posted, but I am still open to any ideas.

Thanks again to you and everyone who helped.

I am not familiar with the ‘05 Deville sound system but I assume is pretty much similar with the '03 and up (Seville/Deville). The CD changer is controlled on the car data line (not E&D line). But the audio signal goes to the AMP (just like the '02 and older). The AMP has a sound processor inside switching the audio input source from HU (when on Radio, CD and Tape) to CD changer (when the CD changer is ON).
Since there is sound on HU the AMP fuse is fine.
The following issues may cause this:
1. The audio line between CD changer and AMP is broken (mainly the common wire since there is no signal on both channels)
2. The audio mixer in the AMP is not working or the CD changer input is burned.

I would start by testing the harness between AMP and CD changer (the audio wires).
Then I would change the AMP.
I am assuming you are able to control the audio volume of the sound system (plus DSP settings and such) so there are no data issues.

The ‘02+ cars can be equipped with the Digital Radio that mounts in parallel with the CD changer (shares the data line and the Audio signal). When the SOURCE button is used the AMP is told to switch to the CD changer audio input then a command is sent to the CD changer to start and another to the Digital Radio to STOP, and then when the SOURCE button is used again the AMP is still instructed to stay on the CD changer input, but now a command is sent to the CD changer to STOP and another to the Digital Radio to START. Then source again and the system switches to HU so the AMP is instructed to switch the input to HU and the CD changer and the Digital Radio are instructed to STOP. Now the selections (with SOURCE) button are done inside the HU (between Radio/Tape and CD) while the AMP is instructed to keep the input on the HU.
If you have Digital Radio should be no audio on it either.
