Going to possibly buy a 05 CTS-V that has a lot of performance mods. The only issue with the vehicle is that the owner says he can’t get it into 4th gear. He said he was told it was probably the shift bushings. How true is this? How much is it going to cost me if I buy the car?

While worn out shifter bushings are a very common issue, I don't see how shifter bushings would only impact the ability to get into 1 specific gear, especially when that gear is right in the middle of the shift pattern. The shifter is in its "default" center position to get into 3rd and 4th, so the bushings have little to no impact on that shift.

Without knowing more about the issue, it's hard to say what the problem is or what it'll cost to fix it. Have you driven it? Will it go into 4th with the engine shut off? Will it go into 4th if you double clutch it? Will it go into 4th on a downshift?

I would suggest changing the fluids, bleeding the hydraulics and when you have time replacing the shifter bushings.
