Hi I'm new here and recently got a 04 SRX awd 3.6 it's got about 160,000 miles on it now and it seems to be going through a lot of oil I think plus I can smell it almost all the time but it's not leaving any spots that I can see can anyone help/ give me some insight into what might be going on.

Sounds like piston rings and valve seals the oil is being burnt in your cat converter

It's not blowing any smoke like it's burning the oil that's what's got me dumbfounded

That's what some of the V6s do. Read some of the threads here on oil consumption. There are many but few proven solutions other than new rings, valve guides etc. Keep in mind, it's a lot less expensive buying some oil than doing (paying) for a ring job.
