Going to drain and refill my 04 Seville’s trans fluid along with the drain plug found after the pan is dropped. The car has 135k miles. Question. Has anybody here used Valvoline Max-Life synthetic trans fluid as a replacement fluid? Also ... including draining the fluid from the drain plug found after the pan is removed, aproximately how many quarts total will be needed to refill the trans ?

Thanks

What does your transmission OLM say, and why are you exchanging the fluid ?

Use a DEXRON-VI fluid. Many refiners package it.

From overhaul dry the transmission holds 15.2 quarts.

Pan drop and side tank drain gets about 10 or so quarts.

Pan drop gets about 6 - 7 out.

Jury-rigging a fluid cooler hose and idling the engine pumps out about 12 - 13 quarts.

It's a dry sump transmission, so there should be NO fluid on the dipstick with the engine off for 5 minutes.

The display shows 22% and we just got this car so I’m changing all fluids. I have multiple vehicles that I’m now running Valvoline Max Life synthetic in and am having good results. I was asking about this Seville and using the Max Life in it to see if anyone had any adverse comments about using it in this particular trans. Any thoughts ?

Run a GM recommended DEXRON-VI fluid. DEXRON-III was obsolete in 2006. Makes no difference who packaged it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I’ve read that Dexron 6 works fine but since I have 5 gal of Max-life that is why I asked the question about compatability with the Seville’s transmission. I don’t reinvent anything that works however when a product comes out that becomes a proven item and I use it successfully well I continue to use it. For example Amsoil products. They perform great so many have switched to that product line. Thank you for responding to my questions. However maybe someone who has actually used the Max-life product will chime in with their experience. Thanks again ??

Looks like it's a GM authorized fluid. Go ahead and use it.

How long would someone have to run the stuff to provide "experience"? AMSOIL does make some good lubricants - nothing wrong with their products. Valvoline packages products that are used worldwide - I ran their products all through the 60s and 70s.
