I have a problem that I have not seem in any posts. When I start my 04 Deville (74000 miles) when the car is cold, the Service airbag light stays on and the speedometer, tach, turn signals, cruise control, odometer do not work. The speedo reads 0. After a while, check engine light comes on and everything works as it should. The code for the check engine light is P0449.(Evap. cannister vent solinoid). If I reset the code, it will not reset until the car is cold again.
This is my first Cadillac (Love it) and I need help. Any help or advise wuould be appreciated. Thank you.

Check the grounds at the transmission, near the front oxygen sensor. Check the ground from the right side frame rail to the cylinder head. Check the ground near the coolant temperature sensor, below the e.g.r valve. Check the ground underneath the rear seat near the battery.

Make sure they are all clean and tight, no broken wires.

Thanks for the info. I have checked and regrounded everything I could. Reset computer and it seems alright. My only concern is that it's not as cold as it was last week. Thanks again.

Well, the weather turned cold again and the problem is still there. I do not understand how this can be heat related. Also found out that the Check Engine Light does not work as well as everything else.

Ok,

I assume this is a base deville with DIGITAL dash.

I just went to mine to try to understand what's going on.

I turned my key, didn't start the car. Lights came on for the brakes, airbag, chimes, etc. My speedometer reads "0" till the car starts moving.

I don't have tach, not set up like the analog cluster. Temp guage on the left of the speedo, fuel guage to the right.

How long have you had this car/ problem?

Have you had any battery issues recently?

Tach is 1 of the options on the small read out under the speedo. I have had this car for almost a year and the problem just started. (or at least I just noticed it when it got cold) No battery problems at all.

This sounds like an electrical issue.

Yet, why only when it's cold? The only thing that I can see affected by temperature is the battery. Make sure all connections, positive and negative are clean and tight.

As rodnok01 stated, check the fuses for clean, corrosion free contact. Check the relays for clean, corrosion free contact.

You have an intermittent connection somewhere. A fuse box, battery, at the starter, a relay, a fuse, something is not making good contact.

It could be even the ignition switch in the column........
