I have a 2004 V6 with about 28,000 on it. The dealer says that the cupping is caused by the AWD when the tires get worn enough. Then he told me those original Goodyears only get 40 to 50,000 at the most.

I have serious conflicts with this opinion and thus after owning 12 new Cadillacs [8 from this dealer!] I think I am going to change. I feel I have been out and out BS'd and don't like it. I know how many of you feel about the dealer situation but what I want to know is your experiance with these tires and the problems including miles on thos $185 tires. :cookoo:

Hey would take 40K on tires any day, really good ones last even less 20-30k. Only really good GoodYear is the F1...

Not sure what you are complaining about...

I think your dealer was being honost. I had to replace my front tires ( awd '04 SRX) at 26,000. My dealer did tell me he is seeing early wear on the front tires on AWD SRX's. The outer edges where worn out.


My friend has low profile high performance tires on his BMW 5 and he is only getting 15,000 miles on them !!

I have a RWD '04 SRX with 24,000 miles.
I am surprised at how much the Goodyears have worn and
how bad their wet weather traction is now.

Pulling away from a stop sign in the wet or making a left turn at an intersection
makes the backend want to come around and sometimes the stabilitrak lets me hang
it out. Which is fun.

But if my G/F drives it I am a little concerned.

I was just talking to my friend about this yesterday and both of us over the years have experience the same cupping/scoloping of our tires on 4wd/AWD vehicles. Just like you we were told that's just the way it is (by a trusted front alignment guy) with 4wd/awd vehicles and just like you our tires lasted a good 30-40k miles, meaning that the cupping didn't prematurely end the life of the tire.(it's just annoying) So from personnel life experience I actually agree with the dealer (which I NEVER do) on this one.

Based on my past experiences with cupping tires it is/can be a little dangerous. The "cupped" portion of the tire is usually on several spots of the tire and when this "cupped" portion is on the ground that part of the tire does not have full contact with the pavement. On top of an annoying sound at speed this also caused the vehicle to hydroplain easier and in snow we lost some traction. :ill: So far our V8 AWD has 11,400 miles and no issues yet....

However, this was on some previous vans we owned and the cupping was due to a heavy vehicle with garbage shocks from the factory that could not properly handle the weight.

I have found that tire inflation is critical on AWD vehicles! Caddy seems to keep the pressure a tad on the low side (32 PSI on my v-8 AWD door sticker). I feel this is for a better irde experience. Probably should be 35 PSI cold! Try it!:yup:

My 2004 AWD V* SRX has 55,000 miles and original tires. Will be changing soon. Have not reached wear bars yet, but the available tread is significantly reduced. No cupping and I hold psi at 35 cold. Even wear also.

The front tires on my AWD 04 SRX V-8 were replaced by the dealer after 22,000 miles due to wear on the inside edge. They were not cupped, but were visibly worn. Yhe cause was incorrect toe-in. The toe-in was corrected and I have about 8,000 miles on the new tires with no apprecialble wear. I drive it hard, and it loves it!
