HELP!! Does anyone have any suggestions? My Deville DTS would not shift out of Park. This is the most recent of several problems I am having. I need to know if I need to replace the shift lever assembly or if there could be any other possible concerns?
It sounds like the shifter solenoid went south. Under your ashtray, in that little curved area, lift up the rubber cover, and you'll find a compartment door. Take the compartment off, and inside you'll see an orange tab. Push it forward toward the front of the car. That's a manual release.
Basically there's a solenoid that activates when you press the brake pedal. You'll notice it usually makes a click, and that releases the shift lock.
I think it's called the BTSI or brake transmission shift interlock.
Are you having a Northstar FWD Deville shift problem or are you quoting a 10 year old post for test purposes?
