01 deville bad transmission leak! help !

Hey everyone, my 01 deville has had a leaking transmission for a while now. Used to be a few drops but I parked for 8 months and fired it up and its losing a lot of fluid now. Has a few drops every couple seconds now. Is there any common transmission leak issues with northstar deville? Someone said it could be an axle shaft seal? Can anyone else confirm what else it could be? Its up on driver side about midway up. Its gotten to the point where I need to do something about it now as it loses fluid quicker then I can refill. I am currently not driving it. Transmission still works fine however the overdrive never worked.
Also what fluid does this transmission take ? dexron?

Use Dexron VI

No "common leak issues" with the 4T80E.

Axle shaft seal would be near the bottom. Half way up might be the side cover gasket.

Also xheck the transmission cooler line connector at the top near the place you check the fluid level

Hmm ill have to ask mechanic what looks obvious its around nmid way up engine driver side. Lost all fluid over night

He wasn't checking the dipstick without the engine running was he? That would reflect being completely empty. Otherwise if it was completely full and is now empty, you would see something like 12 quarts of red fluid on the floor.
:yeah:

Post #4 shows the dipstick (#1) on the side cover. When the engine is off, all the fluid drains from the side cover down into the pan, thus it will appear empty.
bunch of fluid on ground. checked it while running
Now mechanic went into it more. So the transmission lines are pouring out tyranny fluid and theres a seal leak. Can I buy just the transmission lines from gm?

Don't believe that one.

Left side axle shaft leaks at the third clutch housing bushing BEHIND the axle seal....

It leaks LIKE it's the seal but it's far worse.

When I discovered this issue, at least two years back, there weren't any real repair solutions for this THEN.

Now there are a few repair options with a different sized tripot that fits into a redesigned bearing or bushing.....

Search 3rd clutch housing bushing or my then thread "4t80e Woes"

The leak is probably the bushing which leaks while the vehicle is running. Possible a line but highly unlikely.......

Good luck.
