I was driving about 30mph, and pressed the gas, and noticed I was only coasting. I
pulled over, turned off and on, checked fluid levels, and refilled brake fluid. (I was on
my way to have the back brakes replaced) I checked the transmission fluid and there
was barely a drop on the dipstick. I poured 3 qts of dexronIII in there and it came up to
the middle of the cold-section of the dipstick(about 20%of the dipstick). I shifted
through the gears several times and let it idle. Still no movement. Nothing felt like it
broke, no loud noises or grinding, seems to shift into all gears normally, what could be wrong?

Try adding a whole lot more tranny fluid until it is full when hot. You might have smoked your clutch or your tranny filter or screens are plugged up from the clutch going. Everyone is having transmission problems with the newest Eldorados. I have to add a few quarts a week to keep it going until I can figure out what to do next. You notice a leak on the front driver's side right where the drive shaft connects to the tranny? If you do, welcome to the club, because the problem is inside the trans.

Thanks motomack, but I don't have a leak. How much is a whole lot more? When you say "full when hot", do you mean when it's idling in park: keep adding until I get to the HOT section(it doesn't say full on the dipstick)?? I was scared of overfilling it with too much fluid.

Make sure you are on level ground and the engine is fully warmed up in park and add transmission fluid until it is near the full range when hot on the dipstick. You can add half a quart at a time and test drive if you like. Fluid has to be leaking somewhere if it got low.

unless you developed a giant leak -
or blew a hose - fluid is NOT your problem

check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes -
if you don't know how - go here and read the ENTIRE post -

http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-deville-1985-2005-including-1985/138257-how-pull-codes-dtcs.html

if you have any codes - post them here -
ALONG WITH THEIR DEFINITIONS -

Hey motomack,
I filled up the transmission, after idling for 20 min, and got it up to full in the hot section of the dipstick. Still no movement and I didn't see any leaks...what should I try next?

========================================
nice job of posting codes WITH THEIR DEFINITIONS -
AND including Current or History -
that really helps us help you - :highfive:

===========================

the only trans-related code - P0741 - isn't the cause -
so I'd say something actually broke inside the trans -
figure $2500 to $3500 to completely rebuild it -

the next question is usually -
what about putting a used trans in it -

a used trans is a real crap shoot -
it will cost at least half what a rebuild would cost -
it might work perfectly for 100,000 miles -
or - it might fail 100 feet after installed -

========================

as for all the other codes -
I would recommend clearing them all -
and see what comes back -

after getting the trans fixed of course -

Thanks basscatt, I really can't afford that right now. Someone said to check the transmission control module. Where is that? I can find pictures of the unit, but not where it's located.

I can't find any videos or diagrams on how to find it. Where is the transmission control module on 2000 Eldorado?

There isn't one. The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) controls both the engine and transmission.

If there was an issue, there would be a related code.

Answered in your other thread. Please don't start multiple threads on the same subject.

I presume you've erased ALL the codes? History codes mean nothing.
