Hi all, So I acquired a 9k original mile 1978 Eldo Biarritz Custom Classic last year and finally got around to tinkering with it. When I bought the car it was a complete dog. If I floored it, I couldn't feel any difference at all. This was even after I changed the plugs/wires/dist cap/rotor...

For work, I drive a 2000 Chevrolet Astro AWD LS passenger van. It has 224k on it right now, it runs great, and on any given time, I've got about 1500 lbs of product in the back of it (everything aside from the front seats is removed). It's 4.3L V6 makes 190hp and 250 lb/ft of torque....which...

Did Caddy ever mount a 700r4 to the big blocks? I just put a 425 into a Jeep truck and was wondering what my options would be as far as getting an OD that has the Caddy BB bell. If they did use a 700, I could swap tail shafts and still use a t-case on it. :D If anyone has any info, I would...

Has anyone ever installed a 500 Cadillac off-set grind stroker crank in a Caddy 425 block/motor? The bore size is of course smaller than the 472/500, but the block is lighter and may make a good candidate for a strong street motor. 500 Caddy motors are still relatively common and inexpensive...

Had to run an errand this evening, car was sitting all day, got in, accidentally jammed the accelerator a bit hard before turning the key, car started fine, BUT, after driving a short distance, the idle never calmed down to the normal low RPM as it always does. Got to my destination, car was...

Anybody know the stock jet size for a '79 Cad with original Q-jet? Mine has had dual exhausts installed before I got it- used stock Y pipe (due to crossmember, I suppose), then dual pipes, no cats. I doubt they re-jetted the carb, but would guess it may need it, might be a bit lean. Should I go...

I got a brand new air cleaner intake hose recently for my '78 Sedan Deville. I noticed, when taking off the old one, that the old one has "2 deliberately placed oval shaped cut out openings" on the underside. These 2 openings are about 1-1/2 inches around.Since the old air hose is original, these 2...

I pulled the valve covers on my '79 425 last week to replace the gaskets, and to my dismay found mucho sludge......just got the car about 6 months ago. I cleaned the valve covers well and tried to find the oil passages in the heads (think they are in the rear by firewall) but was never sure I...

Hey all, nice forum you have here. I am not going to lie to anyone here, I'm a dedicated Jeep fan. I own 13 Jeeps in various states of restoration. With that many, I am in the need for something that can haul these around from time to time. A friend gave me the 425 and TH400 out of his '79...

Hello all, first the facts. Last year i purchased a 78 coupe deville, that took me about 15 months to import to Brasil. Today i was checking the car, idle is extremlly high when the car is cold, after 10 minutes goes a little lower, parking brakes will not release when engage "D", brakes are...

My uncle gave me the bus he's had since 1974. It currently has a Caddy 425 in it. I am told that the motor came from a Hearse. What years would this motor have been offered? I need to replace the head gaskets, valve seals, and lifters. What are my options for intake manifolds with this motor...

I recently purchased a '79 FWB. The starter works, but it grinds and sounds like an early chevy v8. I have owned these Cads before and never had one sound like this. Could it be a starter with the wrong drive gear?

I was cleaning the exterior of my 425 carb today and noticed a tube on the front of the carb-----apparently it`s a vent tube according to my chiltons manual. Does the tube get clogged over time and IF it does get clogged----can it be rodded out to clear it out?

I recently bought a '78 Deville 425-------my mechanic says it needs new valve gaskets, they are leaking a bit---he wants $250 including labor.I could do them myself but passenger side cover has an AC line running directly over 1 end of it. Might be a real hassle doing it myself. Anyone here ever...

Hey all, I removed heads to remove broken ex. manifold bolts. Put everything together and rockers tapping very loud when I pulled heads everything was quiet. I used proper torque specs. I'm concerned with the rocker retainers can I use a shaft system on the heads.
