These cars don't have struts, they have shocks. Did you replace the shocks, the springs, or both? What brand did you buy?

These cars' timing chains wear and by your mileage would need replacement. If they haven't been done, they're due. Please do your research.
lol I'm not really a car person as I am a woman :) sorry if i am having trouble with something i know close to nothing about.

I bought a strut assembly from 1A auto parts. My local mechanic checked my car and HE TOLD ME "You need struts in the front and shocks in the back" This was before all my current problems.

This is what I purchased. 2008 Cadillac CTS All Wheel Drive Front Driver & Passenger Side 2 Piece Strut & Spring Assembly Set TRQ SCA57339

i try to do research to the best of my ability before purchasing parts for my car because i do not like spending money. In fact most of the conclusions i have come to were because of these forums with people who have had similar problems as me.

I have also just contacted the person i bought it from. He buys and sells cars from auctions. I asked if he got the timing chain repaired before selling the vehicle. He did. I never had a check engine light until after it stopped the final time. anything else?

      Got it.

The front shock assemblies look like struts but they aren't. The difference between shocks and struts really comes down to the mounting points and the CTS' front shocks mount to the lower control arms not to the wheel's mounting knuckle. You can replace the front shocks and springs on the CTS without doing an alignment but on a car with Macpherson struts, an alignment would be required.

      Anywho...

Anything other than OEM or better do not work well on these cars. I do not have experience with TRQ but what I've read isn't encouraging. I have no doubt that the assembly you purchased is off-spec and is the reason why the ride height is off. That's unfortunate. I'm sorry.

As for the current problem, can you tell us more about the alternator you bought from Napa? Was it a Delco or Denso unit?
