  1. Air shocks leaking at shock mount

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
Yes, looks like the same problem. Time to replace them before your compressor burns out. I ended up going with the Suncore non-MRC air shocks in order to keep costs down yet keep the compressor level-control system functional. The 50W 3-ohm resistors that Suncore sent seem to be working and I am...
  2. Air shocks leaking at shock mount

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
Ludacrisvp, are you certain that this resistor trick works for 2005 model years? When I spoke with Strutmasters, they told me that the resistors only work for all other model years, but there is something unique to the 2005's the prohibits this work-around. Meanwhile, today I took out the...
  3. Air shocks leaking at shock mount

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
Unsure. They were AC DELCO from a supplier in California. AC Delco warranty is only 2 yr / 24,000 mi on air suspension parts. That's too frequently to be dropping $1k on a 12 year old car worth $4k. :banghead:
  4. Air shocks leaking at shock mount

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
2005 SRX with 185k mi. Original air shocks lasted about 8 years and 130k miles before I replaced them 3 years ago (55k mi) with new GM OEM air shocks. Replaced the compressor at that time as well. Recently the compressor went bad again, so I just replaced that with a new Suncore compressor and...
  5. srx airride ssupension compressor rattling noise Normal ?

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
Not normal. The compressor assembly is mounted to the vehicle frame by 3 screws. Either those are loose, or something on the assembly itself has worked its way loose. Only way to tell is to jack up the rear and look.
  6. Front differential axle seal replacement

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
Fluid leaking from the front differential passenger side axle seal. Can this be done without dropping the frame and removing the differential? Can I just pull the right axle shaft and yank the seal?
  7. 2004 SRX ratcheting noise at heavy acceleration

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
Recalls have nothing to do with who purchased the car from whom. The chain fails too frequently on these cars. Whatever the reason may be, regardless of who In the parts supply chain is at fault, GM should have recalled them for the issue.
  8. 2004 SRX ratcheting noise at heavy acceleration

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
2005 V6 purchased @60k mi from original owner. Now at 150k mi. Transfer case chain went south at around 90k in 2011-ish if I am remembering correctly.
  9. Power steering leak - O-rings on pressure hose

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
Well THAT was unexpected! Jacked up the SRX tonight to investigate the cause of the leak and here is what I found: This puzzles me as it appears that the OEM-style clamps failed to provide sufficient tension and the hose popped off the hard-line. I could possibly accept this as clamp fatigue...
  10. 2004 SRX ratcheting noise at heavy acceleration

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
GM engineering decided the unit was beefy enough to use in the SRX application. Whether Borg-Warner over rated the chain, the chain was manufactured inferior to spec, or GM specified it's use in the SRX when it shouldn't have, I don't know. Regardless of who is at fault, I still blame GM for not...
  11. 2004 SRX ratcheting noise at heavy acceleration

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
I'll add to the chorus of people saying, "WITHOUT A DOUBT, IT'S A STRETCHED TRANSFER CASE CHAIN" Been there, done that. Yet another GM engineering design flaw we are all left to contend with.
  12. Clunking noise, right front - 06' SRX

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
Could be: - swaybar bushings that mount to the crossmember (#1 place I would check first, visually inspect) - swaybar endlinks (visually inspect) - bad shocks (@ 72k, if original shocks, very possible) - LCA bushings/ball-joint. As indicated above, need to replace the entire LCA. (visually...
  13. Considering an SRX

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
Don't do it. Hands down the worst vehicle I have ever owned maintenance wise. I am an avid DIY mechanic who has maintained my own vehicles for the past 20 years and I am so sick and tired of fixing this car. The frustrating part is that almost all the repairs I make appear to be related to...
  14. Oil Consumption, Time to give up?

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
My experiences only. I am sure others will disagree with what I have found to work for me. I purchased an 05 SRX V6 with 60k mi about 5 years ago. Ever since day 1 it has consumed way too much oil. Because it was out of warranty I never bothered taking it into the dealership for an oil...
  15. is there an aftermarket lower control arm upgrade

Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum 2004-2009
Yes, I understand that your issue is the bushings failing and that these aftermarket LCAs only offer replaceable ball joints. But it is still cheaper to replace the LCA with an aftermarket part for $70 versus an OEM part for $200 to get new bushings.
