2016 XTS needs new battery? (Too soon?)

    2016 XTS purchased 11/16.

Today car would not start. Familiar ticking so I called AAA for jump.

Diagnostics revealed bad battery that would not hold a charge. Replaced on site for $166.00

Is this a bit early for a dead battery?

XTS perfect to date with only 35,000 miles.

Please share thoughts or similar experiences.

    Thanks,

    Jay

I Would say that's about the right time for the original battery to die, mine died at about the same mileage and age too.

Ours died at 10 months old and less then 5k miles. Replaced on site under warranty by dealer. No issues since. A battery is a crap shoot especially in a hot state like Florida.

My 2014 (built Nov 2013) sat on lot for 18 months through two winters before I bought it in May 2015. Replaced battery in Dec 2017...car started to have electrical problems...past experience and forums indicated to me to verify battery condition....did so and needed replacement….so I replaced it....no issues since.
Past experience with vehicles....I don't hesitate to replace battery after 3 years if it acts up.....reliability is an important issue to me and I don't have to pay AAA or anyone else...just Auto insurance charge for towing which is pretty cheap and not redundant.

The battery in my '15 died last month with 33K miles. So no, it's not too soon.
Like tires, I don't expect an OEM battery to be good... I expect it to be made to a low price spec.
You get to decide how good the next tires or battery will be.

My 2014 with 65K is still on the original battery. But, I was advised during my last service that the battery will need to be replaced some.

My 2016 battery went south with no warning with less than 20K miles. Determined to be a bad cell despite testing at the dealer indicating it was OK. Dealer tech who came out to do jump said there were some known issues with AC Delco batteries. After doing the jump, the battery again failed the next 2 days before I had dealer replace it despite testing results. I subsequently purchased the Cadillac accessory for the NOCO 2000 AMP Jump Starter for $200. It is the supported model for my FWD XTS. There are 3 models. I have used it on wife's car and it is real easy and does the trick in seconds. New XTS battery running fine since.

You purchased your '16 in Nov. When was it built? If it sat around for months being jockeyed around numerous times before sale, I'm not surprised about a weak battery. Happened to me twice, recently, shortly after purchase. Dealer popped for a new battery both times. As you know, these newer cars are using current all the time.

Replaced mine 6 months ago in my 2016, covered by warranty. My car sat around at the dealer for over a year and then was not driven while stored for 6 months during the winter. I was not surprised.

Some batteries last 7 years, some die within a year. Lots of variables, heat, cold, sits around unused a lot, hit a pothole and jarred something loose inside the battery.
Cadillac Roadside Assistance probably would have came out and replaced it for free under warranty.
