    Question about a Door Button

    Can someone please help?

I have a 2017 XTS luxury model. There is a button near the sunroof buttons and it says, "Off Door On". It is between the left and right buttons that turn the upper lights off and on.

I have read all of my manuals and cannot find anything that explains the use of this button. On page 15, of the XTS Convenience & Personalization Guide, it shows a picture of this button. I am a bit uneasy about touching it.

    Help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

Re: Question about a Door Button

It controls when the overhead light comes on - you can turn if OFF and it will only come on when you press the left or right overhead light button; on will turn the overhead lights on and they will stay on when you close the doors and get in the car. Normally you set it to DOOR so that when you open the doors the lights come on and gradually dim after a brief time period - called Theater Lighting once upon a time.

I would never have figured this out. Thank you so much, jghiller, for taking the time to explain this to me. I have it set as you suggested. A million thanks!

No problem - see Pg. 165 in Owners Manual on Interior Lighting.

You were really afraid to touch the button?

Understandable. I don't touch any of the buttons near the sunroof area. Too many buttons and I can't rely on the info in the manual. It's easier to just leave it alone.

Re: Question about a Door Button

No need to be afraid, that is how I learned a lot of the stuff on these on these newer cars. Just do it when you are not going down the road. I am afraid to push buttons other than the basics that I all ready know if I am driving!
