    Question Fluid Changes

Hi Guys....I have a 2007 Base XLR with 18000 miles on the clock. I have been doing the scheduled oil and coolant changes all along. Yesterday when I went to the dealer for the coolant change, he was pushing flushing and changing brake fluid, trans fluid, differential fluid and power steeling fluid. I have never done this on any car I have ever owned. I asked my trusted and highly knowledgeable and trusted mechanic/friend who I have known for years about the dealer's suggestion and he said that it sounds like a "money grab" to him. He does not think that these additional fluid changes are necessary given the low miles. Anyone else care to jump in with their experience and advise? Thanks a bunch!

    Re: Fluid Changes

It saddens me that there appears to be very little if any owner participation on this forum these days. I posted a question about a week ago and nobody has even looked at it let alone respond to it...VERY SAD

    Re: Fluid Changes

Very few XLR owners active in CF .........

Of all those fluid change recommendations the only one I would recommend would be brake fluid. The stuff is hygroscopic (it LOVES water) and 5 year changes keep the brake system as new. Piece of cake for a good local Mom & Pop shop. Maybe $140 ?????? - IF the caliper bleeder screws aren't corroded/seized - it's a problem in our area with all the winter road chemicals ...........

    Re: Fluid Changes

Thanks for the advice Submariner. I think I will do the brake fluid. Not real worried about the bleeder screws since I do not drive the car in the rain, much less the snow. Essentially hibernates on trickle charger and on blocks from Thanksgiving until April Fools day....

    Re: Fluid Changes

Changed every fluid on my XLR last year. It's been in the car for 14(!!) years, that's long and no matter what mileage it has.
And after inspecting the old transmission fluid and old coolant it was very clear to me that a change was a good idea…

What transmission fluid did they use? Dexron VI?

    (Mine is about 20.000 miles)

    Re: Fluid Changes

Hi Sam.....I had my trusted local mechanic sample the transmission, power steering fluid and differential fluids. His opinion is that there is no contamination or breakdown. He recommended leaving these fluids alone since the mileage is really low at 18K and not driven hard or in the cold months.... He did recommend changing the brake fluid which I am going to do. Thanks for your response.
