Gas pedal makes clicking sound (yes the pedal itself)

I am new to the Cadillac world, with my “new” 1985 El Dorado Biarritz.

The pedal itself makes a click-clunk sound as I lift my foot off of it. It does not seem to affect anything operationally, but I’m sure that it isn’t right.

Cup holders or lack of is a major annoyance.

Sticking gas pedal cable, pedal arm axle, mat in the way, whatever. Open the hood and check for rod/cable binding. Judicious lubrication of the pedal slider area???

If you move your foot of the pedal quickly the force of the spring pulling the throttle closed moves the arm that the pedal pushes on towards you quickly, causing the pedal to jump off it-hence the clink. SOP for old cars with the pedal mounted to the floorpan.

Harry, I think you mean the ISC motor. The IAC solenoid didn't show up until I believe '96 on the Northstar.
That said, that was my first thought as well, but it did not match the OP's description of "click-clunk sound". A failing ISC motor is more of a ratcheting sound as I recall, and I THINK that is after shut down.

    Shouldn't post before coffee.
Yes ISC; and you're right, it chatters at shutdown.
The Perryman Garage regrets the error.
