    '98 STS Sunroof malfunction

Last summer my sunroof malfunctioned. I came out in the morning and noticed that I did not completely shut the sunroof the night before. I went to close it and it would not operate properly, I could and still do hear the motor. I was able to get it shut using my hand but now it wont' move. Did something get off track, is this repairable? I have the glass/sun shade off and part of the headliner down so I can see what is going on. What should i be looking for? Should I take the complete housing off?

    Thanks Dave D.

Have you ever checked the glass/rail mounting screws (# 2 ) for tightness and glass alignment? There are two screws in each side rail, and when they get loose the sunroof malfunctions.

Thanks Submariner for you illustrations. Yes, I check those screws and they are tight. I spoke to two people and got different details, the repair guy said the system works like a door window, while the Cadillac parts guy said it works on cable that is connected to the motor. Any way, found a specialist sunroof repair place not too far away. Guy said to bring it over and in an hour he will be able to tell what needs to be done. Unfortunately the housing is no longer available but you can find the motors on ebay, etc.
