Need Help on valuation/barn find/T Top

    Hello Cadillac enthusiasts,

I am posting for a neighbor who recently lost her husband. Tucked away in a closed area is what I believe to be the 1978 El Dorado with the manual T Top (ACS aftermarket I presume?)

Regardless, I am only interested in her best interest. Although I own and restore cars, this one is out of my wheelhouse.
ODO shows about 42K miles, a look under the hood makes me think this is correct.

    Last licensed in 1996.

Take a look at the pics and tell me what you think high/low value if possible.

Thanks in advance, (if you need more info I can get, but it is tucked way away and hard to get to)

    RP

(Mods, if this is incorrect forum, please move accordingly)

'78 was the last of the big ones. This one looks like too much weather damage to bring back, UNLESS it go's cheap.
    Are those cloth seats?
    I;ve got a '78 , and don't need another.
    Where is this car?

It is a cloth interior. Looks intact except for the arm rests.

Paint has standard issue blistering, but appears to be stock.

I believe the car has lived in Washington State it's entire life (is in Olympia now, 60 miles south of Seattle)

What is considered "cheap"? As I said, I don't have any interest in the car whatsoever, just trying to help a neighbor who lost her husband suddenly.

As an aside, the last picture on the bottom is what us underneath the crud. That is a spot I wiped with dish washing soap and a rag.

Cleaned a spot on the vinyl roof and rear fender, vinyl is complete and not peeling, picture did not turn out but will provide more shortly (I may even pull it out and pressure wash for her)

Harry, the seats appear to be "velour".

I would tell your neighbor to accept ANY offer over $500 -

being that rough on the top - and exposed to the elements in Washington -
the floors are probably rotted away - notice that the left window is lowered by 1" -

have her get the money BEFORE they try to pick it up with a wrecker -
it might just fold in half -

That is not the barn find that people dream of. You will never find a buyer to pay $1000 for that car so follow basscat's advice.

Re: Need Help on valuation/barn find/T Top

Looks more like a '69/'70. Those are aftermarket T-Tops akin to that of the pop-up sunroof, they hurt the value of the car if anything. The only possible saving grace would be if it a 1970 as it has a desired 500ci high compression engine. If that's the case, she might be able to get rid of it without paying someone...

Re: Need Help on valuation/barn find/T Top

Thank you for the assistance. Not being familiar with any of the Cadillac's, I was unaware of how low a restored car actually goes for.

My experience, as I said in the beginning, is a bit different, in that I work with only European race cars from the early fifties to the seventies, and pre WW2 cars that are single run items. In my world, if you find a chassis and serial stamp on the frame, you have a very valuable barn find.

To the junkyard it goes, and thanks again for your input
