    New '16 owner

Black w/ kona interior, adaptive cruise and black rims. I have been eyeing this car for a while. It joins a garage that currently has a '13 Leaf and a '18 Clarity so my Siemens charger will be doing triple duty.

I apparently need to get the CUE system updated at the dealer since I only see Apple CarPlay in the menu and not Android Auto, which is the one I need. I'm not sure which of the three usb ports I need to connect the phone to get the system to recognize the phone. Maybe it doesn't matter?

One thing the car does not have that surprises me is it doesn't have the brake hold feature. Our Clarity does and it is handy, especially in stop-and-go traffic and sitting in drive-thru lines. With a car so jam-packed with features as the ELR I am surprised it isn't there.

The car is currently sitting in limbo in my garage with no plates. I am waiting for the title to be mailed to me since the DMV won't issue me any sort of plates for a private sale without a title. So it is just sitting there, teasing me. But I am happy to join the ELR unicorn community.

The USB port in the center console (not behind the stereo fascia) supports CarPlay in my '16.

There are two of them in there. Do they both work for that?

Interesting question - I just plugged it into the first one I came to.

OK, I went out to the garage and looked. It's plugged into the driver's side port.

Congratulations on your new car! Sounds like you found a really nice ELR.

Either of the USB ports in the console—and also the one in the phone storage area behind the motorized panel—should support CarPlay.

Android Auto was included for later 2016 production and could be added by the dealer via a CUE software update. (I think they were waiting for Google to finalize their design specs. before they could enable support.) I don't think it says anything beyond "Projection" until you plug in your Android phone, so be sure to try it before you go to the trouble of making a service appointment.

I feel like a broken record saying this to people who post about their newly purchased ELRs, but be sure to sign up for the voltstats.net website. It uses your OnStar connection to get data about your electric vs. gas driving statistics, how many electric miles your car has driven, etc. Really interesting info. and fun to compare to other people's stats.

OK, I was meaning to ask about OnStar, too. Specifically, is anything included for free, like the voltstats thing or pre-conditioning the cabin? Or does it require a subscription to get anything out of it? We also have a Leaf and a Clarity and both of those have free apps. I definitely tried every usb port with my phone and it always only had the Projection icon. Also, only Apple CarPlay was listed in the settings menu, so I'm sure I need to do the update. I'm surprised it can't be done at home with a usb stick or something.

Thanks for all the help so far.

One more question: While my '16 is still under warranty, I have over 42,000 miles on the car so I am going to lose the warranty before long. Is there an extended warranty anyone recommends?

Regarding brake hold mode, yes that is a nice feature - have that on my Model 3 also. But there are many other things I like better about the ELR though. Combining each of those two would be my perfect car.

You should be able to install the MyCadillac app, and have features like remote lock/start/etc. Thought that was 5 years at least for free.

What is your car's name on Voltstats (ELR stats)? Mine is "Laguna Beach ELR" and today I'm at position #13. My employer just moved offices 7 miles closer to my house (so now 32 miles each way vs 39), AND installed 4 Level 2 Chargers that give me a full charge in only 4 hours, so look out numbers #1-12, we're moving up the MPG rankings!

I'm about to get a 2016 BLK Kona adaptive to take place of my 2014. Do you find the Electric mileage on 2016 better than 2014. I use to get 35-40 on 2014. but the battery is larger on the 2016. Thanks

I'm jealous of you guys with the Kona seats. In a black interior that must look cool.

I've never had the brake hold feature so don't what I'm missing. Funny thing though I drove my i3 yesterday and just about broke off the left turn stalk thinking it was a regen paddle. In 10 days of owning my 2016 I'm so used to it that I hate not having it! One of the best ideas ever besides the bacon sandwich.

If all goes well, I am meeting a guy coming down from Seattle to buy my lame duck i3 and it will forever be gone... Such a good little car but when I swung that door open and looked at that Kenaf material on the door and then get into the ELR...wow what a difference. Makes the BMW look so cheap.
