    Bypass 3rd Brake Light

    2004 DeVille. Can anyone tell me how to bypass or jump out 3rd brake light to see if that is causing a problem. In other words I need to remove it from the circuit without it causing a code.
    Thanks.

    a better idea would be to describe your issue/problem -

    if you have any codes - post them - along with their DEFINITIONS

    Hi
    I have posted this before but in order to do as you suggest, here it is again: Traction light comes on if:

    With daytime running lights/headlights /parking lights ON, when you use either turn signal you get the TC light.

    With daytime/headlights/parking lights off, the TC lights stays off.

    With daytime/headlights/parking lights ON and you have the brake pedal pushed with tail lights illuminated - turn signal on - no TC light, release brake pedal with turn signal on, TC comes on.

    C1295 is in history no other codes, battery is about a year old and seems fine. Some have said it is the 3rd brake light. Do I purchase another third brake light in hopes that it is a problem or is there a way to test chip in the light? Someone talked about disconnecting 3rd brake light and putting a pigtail in the connector to test if light was the cause of the problem -exactly what are they talking about? This is the reason I asked if there is a way to bypass 3rd brake light
    I replaced the brake light switch, still happens the same way, still get C1295. Checked every light on car and don't see any bulbs out. I really don't want to purchase a third brake light and not fix the problem.

    Thank you in advance,
    Mike

    sounds like a short or ground feed-back somewhere in the circuit -

    FIRST QUESTION -
    is EVERYTHING on your car STOCK?
    no aftermarket radio - remote start - LED lights - trailer hitch/lights - etc -

    do you get the same results with the twilight sentinel OFF - and just the parking lights ON?

    if YES - the headlight circuit is not involved -

    --------------------------

    the easiest way to isolate the various circuits within the lighting system
    is to pull fuses - one at a time - and try it -
    when the problem changes - you found the problem circuit -

    under the hood fuses
    5= left low beam -
    6 = right low beam -
    9 = right high beam
    10 = left high beam -
    24 = daylight running lights -
    27 = high beam relay -
    28 - low beam relay -
    30 = daylight running lights relay -

    under the rear seat fuses -
    10 = right parking lights -
    19 = stop lights
    23 = left parking lights -
    40 - parking lights relay -

    --------------------------------------

    Some have said it is the 3rd brake light.
    doubtful -
    seems like the turnsignal is the trigger -

    Basscatt,
    Thank you for all the information , it is appreciated a great deal.
    In answer to your first question .......the car is all stock.
    Second question.....I get the same results with the twilight sentinel OFF - and just the parking lights ON
    Conclusion...the headlight circuit is not involved
    Next I isolated circuits......When I pulled the fuse for left side parking lights ...the right blinker did not cause the traction light to come on.......the left blinker did cause the traction light to come on.
    When I pulled the fuse for right side parking lights ...the left blinker did cause the traction light to come on...the right blinker did not cause the traction light to come on.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have on how to continue from here.
    Thanks again,
    Mike

    Short on the wiring harness. Will need a fsm to show where the wires for the turn signal join those related to the traction system in the same harness. Trace back to see if chewed, nicked, cut, crushed etc.

    Pulling the dtc for the traction will help in identifying what component is affected and help to localize the shared harness point.

    OK - we're getting somewhere -
    seems that activating the left turn signal triggers the TC light -

    pulling the left/right parking light fuses did not change the problem -
    so the issue is not within the parking light circuits -

    ----------------

    try pulling the turnsignal flasher and see what happens -

    where is the turn signal flasher located? Dtc is C1295. I was thinking maybe something to do with cornering lights?Thanks,
    Mike

    Did you resolve the issue, I know this thread is 3 weeks old, but since there is no solution posted... I figured I would mention GM has a TSB about this exact problem and DTC - Bulletin # 05-05-25-010B, which involves checking certain ground connections, and checking the resistance of the 3rd brake light which it says should be 390 ohms +/- 10 ohms
