2005 CTS 3.6 Amp In Trunk

    My first post -
A recent very dead battery, diagnosis from tech. That indicated the amp in trunk was bad, replaced with duplicate non-Bose unit from ebay. Charged battery, cost 700 In diagnostic and after a month, same issue. First, I was able to get the grey clip off lower power connector as I was advised this power conn. Disconnected will allow the car to run but no sounds anywhere, right? Must I unscrew the amp to now get the lower power conn out? Having trouble with this. I'm tempted to junk the car to not put good money after bad but my wife loves the car. When it works! I'm no good with electrical and don't know what to #o other than what I mention here. With having redone struts, tires and plugs recently I'd hate to bid it farewell but cannot afford more to keep getting diagnostics that are not the answer.

Any help is much or advice is appreciafed.

    Thanx - CJ

Re: 2005 CTS 3.6 Amp In Ttunk

Is the battery good or near its end of life? Next, check the little slider switch for the interior lights (in front of the sunroof). If this switch is all the way forward in the notched position you will get a dead battery. (I discovered this the hard way, after replacing the battery) Just make sure the switch is slightly back, out of the notch. Aside from this the only way to check for a battery drain is to probe individual fuses/connections. It's too bad the last "fix" wasn't permanent.

I agree with Ryan, check battery and check the interior switch! If you have a multimeter, look up on youtube or google a parasitic draw test tutorial, and perform it. The test will tell you exactly what's pulling the power, (or exactly which circuit (based on fuses) is the culprit).

    What they said.

But to directly answer your question, if you can't get t the connector to unplug it, then of course you should unscrew the amp, pull it out, and remove the connector. See if that helps your issue. If it does, then you might have a wiring problem that is causing the AMPs to go out.
