    Renick Performance intake concerns

Finally got a chance to install my Renick Performance (RP) Intake and catch can. Here's the main issue I have.

    1. The original driver's side MAF will not go into the RP slot for the MAF. Under normal driving conditions things should be fine with the swapped MAF meters, but when the ECM needs to make a change like duty cycle for the wastegate, it will be made for the wrong turbo. Left an email for RP Performance and I know the issue will be corrected.

Not sure I understand the issue. If he MAF locatiin as been changed, this intake requires a tune.

The MAF and it's connector harness shown on top in the 2nd and 3rd photos needs to be on the bottom and vice versa. The MAF shown from the top in the 2nd and 3rd photos will not fit into the MAF slot that goes to the driver's side turbo as shown in the video.

    I hope that helps

1st I've heard of this. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the intake tubes can be rotated (and thus the MAF positioning), so you can adjust your install to insure the MAFs install without any interference?

This intake requires a tune. Do not drive the car hard with this intake without getting it tuned for. It throws fuel trims off by 15-20%, but shifts the frequency range so that tuning becomes easier when you increase boost.

Is he tuned for the intake? Being tuned is no different then stock if it hasn't been tuned to include the intake.

Try messaging him on FB might get a quicker response. Hopefully that response isn't how he's sold 2 million of those intakes and no ones had an issue (implying it's your fault).

I know this. Iím figuring he knows this too. I think the point is the fitment of the MAF as opposed to if the cars tuned for it. Gotta get it connected properly first.

2 million intakes for a total build of ~3500 cars?

That wasn't meant to be literal

I'm a little confused after watching the attached video. You said, airflow from the right. The arrow on the sensor should not point to where the airflow is coming from, it should be pointing to where the airflow is going to.

    Re: Renick Performance intake concerns

Let's start with the last question first.

    1. On any tonsil or slot style MAF sensor, one side of the MAF will have an opening for airflow. This open side should be pointing in the direction of where air flow is coming from. This is how air enters into the MAF sensor. In the video, I show the opening on the slot style MAF sensor, and it needs to point in the direction of the air filters.

    2. You can't rotate the U-bend pipe in order to move the location of the MAF slot because they're in a fixed position.

    3. If you look at your MAF sensors, where the harness plugs into them are different. The MAF that goes to the driver's side turbo has its connector mount raised up in the back. The MAF that goes to the passenger side turbo has a lower connector mount. If you look at you MAF sensors and pull off their pigtail harness you'll see what I'm talking about. This applies to stk. or cars with an aftermarket intake.

    4. In the video, the MAF sensor with the raised up connector will not fit into the U-bend pipe because the slot for the MAF was welded in the wrong position. This wrong position or angle prevents the driver's side MAF from dropping in, as shown in the video.

    5. James Renick from RP Performance contacted me immediately. He stated that he had some issues with the company that cuts the intake pipes for the MAF sensors. When I return from vacation, RP Performance will send me a new U-bend pipe along with the missing hardware for the heatshield. I was impressed with the customer service before the sale, but I'm just as impressed with the customer service after the sale.

    Thanks
    Almtyscuzzy
