    Why no front parking sensors?

Why would they not include front parking sensors when there are rear sensors? Yea I know it can be harder to see as you back up so the rear sensor are good but it can be hard to see how close you're getting to things in the front.

Couldn't front sensors be helpful in preventing hitting a high parking curb (in the case of the CTS it would have to be too high to cause damage)?

I have been looking for something that could install myself. Any suggestions?

All these extra goodies sound great but would end up making this a 50K car. Part of the beauty of the CTS is the price, it's a tremendous deal for the money. In case nobody is paying attention, the US economy is slipping into the crapper and cutting expenses with a reasonably priced car with decent fuel economy is a home run. Did I mention it's car of the year and also one of the safest.

Re: Why no front parking sensors?

The reason that there are no front parking sensors is strictly $$ related. There are afterkmarket kits available for rear parking sensing that can be retrofitted to existing vehicles. I see no reason that these sensors couldn't be mounted to the front, instead. You may risk goofing the appearance of your car, but hey, at least you won't have to worry about scraping the front end when you park. Check with any local high end aftermarket car audio specialists in your area. It can be done. If they have particularly clever installers, they might even be able to tap into the factory harness, so if you have rear sensors already, the new front sensors might be able to work off the same circuit, which would be pretty cool. Good luck.

Re: Why no front parking sensors?

In my first post on this forum, I mentioned what I loved about the CTS and also mentioned what I wished it had. Front sensors would have been nice, especially considering how the low front end is likely to get bashed on a parking lot wart. There was another thread (I believe about aftermarket Bluetooth) from a "soon to be vendor" that mentioned front sensors were going to be available aftermarket (from that particular vendor / OP).

I'm definitely going to get the front sensors...and the Bluetooth.

I'm in line for the front sensors also. I bashed (Just Paint) my beloved BMW Z3 on one of those deadmen in a parking lot and it cost me $300 to have it fixed. Nothing could have fixed the anguish I felt. I have gotten very cavalier about parking since I have had my Nissan Murano. Its got like 14" of clearance in the front and the Caddy must be what? All of 4 or 5 inches?

Re: Why no front parking sensors?

Whoever adds front sensors to their CTS will be glad they did. That front overhang is very low. I bought a used Jaguar S-Type for my wife a few years ago, and it was absolutely gorgeous in every way - except for the curb scrapes under the front, which actually wore THROUGH the plastic in some spots. I paid $500 to have the damage repaired and it looked perfect - for about a week. The best solution, I think, would be to try and find the same sensors that GM uses for the rear, install them up front, paint to match and blend the surrounding bumper material, and wire in parallel with the rear sensors. That way, the interior remains clean and uncluttered and the sensors work seamlessly as OEM equipment. This sounds like a VERY worthwhile mod to me.

Right, smartass. Let us know how you feel the first time you scrape the nose of your CTS, or your wife does.

If that's your attempt at humor - FAIL.

If that's your attempt to slam those of us who want to improve our cars - FAIL and go take some Geritol.

You can always count on dkozlowski for a useless and stupid remark. If I'm not mistaken, he doesn't even own a CTS. He just has nothing better to do than sit in front of his computer and be a pain in the butt.

Guys like you just don't "get it". The front of the car is too low to avoid common curbs scrapes. Some of us would like an easy way to avoid that damage.

According to your profile, you are 68-years-old. Apparently in mind, body and spirit. Don't poo-poo advances in technology or the desires of others to improve upon their own vehicles. You may have the greatest depth perception and parking skills in the world, but the valet or mechanic parking your car just may not - or simply won't give a sh**. And you'll be too lazy, stiff or cranky to check the lower front edge for damage whenever somebody else parks your car. Maybe you don't care about scrapes to the lower valance. Okay, fine! Good for you, Jack!

But step down off your marble pedestal and kindly STFU if you don't have anything positive to contribute to this thread. Thank you, and have a great day!
