    Drive shaft issue

Yesterday I heard a clunk like sound when I put the car in gear but didn't think nothing off it. I was on a hill so it was just the pressure of the car coming out of park. Well this morning on the way to work everything was fine. I get about 8 miles in and soon as I attempt to pull off from the stop sign the car moves and then I hear this sound like gears grinding. I immediately come of the gas and let the car coast to the side of the road. I slowly push the pedal again and hear the same sound. I cycled through drive, park, neutral and reverse and the gear shift moved normally. If i put it in reverse I hear the same sound, same sound in drive now without pushing the pedal. I'm on my way back to get it towed but from looking under the car I could see nothing that looked out of place. Trying to get any info that will help me when I take this thing to the shop

If its a CTS, it sounds like the output shaft went. If that's the case, be prepared for a bill of about $3,000.

Do you have an extended warranty? A 2009 is going to be out of the factory warranty.

Got the status back from the shop and it's the transfer case. Didn't buy the car new but the warranty was included in the purchase. 5 year/50k

Glad you're covered. That repair can deflate a wallet fast.

    Re: Drive shaft issue

Just an update the car is still in the shop. The warranty company took their time with approving the job but what gets me is the shop said that the transfer case was shot but when I call to see what time to get the car they asked did I live up north because there was a lot rust damage and they had to cut the exhaust bolts because they couldn't get them off. Up until this point I thought they had already done this. Not sure if you can tell a transfer case is done if you haven't removed it. Well once they get it off they notice that the output shaft was stripped in the process. Long story short I'm waiting yet again to get approval for a transmission. Thank God that's covered as well or I would be selling the car for parts.
