While Cadillac is a name that's synonymous with quality, luxury and award-winning customer service for most people, many people do not know the history of the Cadillac name. Interestingly, the name "Cadillac" came from the name of the founder of Detroit, Michigan, who was a French explorer in the 18th century. The first Cadillac was totally complete in 1902 but was not seen by the curious eyes of the public until the following year. Of course, the public was excited about the vehicle, and more than two thousand units were ordered that very day. From that day on, the Cadillac was known as a beautiful, stylish, reliable, and luxurious vehicle. From the very beginning the Cadillac has been synonymous with those that want the finer things in life - and Cadillacs are fine automobiles.
Cadillac is not only known because they produce beautiful, reliable cars and trucks, but also because they haven’t been afraid to leap ahead in the past and be the first to do things. One of the first things that Cadillac did that no one else had done in a mass produced car is power a vehicle with a V8 engine. Cadillac was the first car manufacturer to put some real power behind the wheel of its vehicle, and it did so in 1915 to the excitement of car lovers worldwide. The Cadillac was also the first car to have an electric start engine instead of having to be cranked, as earlier cars had been. This of course was a huge piece of history, as it changed the way we all use and view vehicles. |
From post war times until the present day, the Cadillac has enjoyed being known as a vehicle that provides consumers with luxury and quality. Not only do Cadillac vehicles look good, they also provide passengers with a great ride, the driver with easy handling, and styling that is unique to Cadillac, though there are those that try to duplicate and imitate.
Of course, history wouldn’t be history without mentioning the low points for Cadillac. Cadillac had always known who its target consumer was, but in the 1980s they tried to go for entry level buyers by producing more compact vehicles, such as the Cimarron. This of course, did not go over well, because it did not fit with what people expected of Cadillac and the younger audience that they were targeting knew that they could buy other compact cars that suited their needs for less than they could buy a Cadillac. Unfortunately, the Cimarron was never really given much of a chance before consumers responded negatively and Cadillac moved on.
The Cadillac of today is much different in appearance from that first Cadillac seen in 1903, but still it has the same luxury, quality, comfort, and reliability in common. Cadillac appeals to many people today with its beautiful cars, as well as its luxury sport utility vehicles such as the Escalade. Current Cadillac vehicles sport razor-sharp lines, stacked headlights, sharp looking grilles and a standard 100,000 mile warranty. As they have in the past, Cadillac is meeting the needs of all of the consumers that are looking for luxury, comfort, quality, reliability, and even power. This has been a trend with Cadillac from the very beginning and will likely continue well into the future.

'99 Cat - coolant goes quick, no leak evidence
A few months ago I bought a '99 Catera so my wife could have a better place for a baby seat and not deal with a 5-speed in metro D.C. I got it from my wife's uncle for $3,000, and for a nearly 10-year-old car, it's done great.
Only problem is the car is currently drinking coolant like it's water. I fill the tank up, per the procedure in the manual, and it is good for a while. Then a few days later, the light comes back on. The car was parked for a few days, and there are no drip spots. I smell no coolant when the engine's hot. The engine temp is right under the half-way mark, and has never risen higher.
I hope someone out there has an idea of what's going on, and I hope it can be fixed cheap... I saw some of the quotes on here for coolant repair, and they're more than what I paid for the car! Thanks....

2009 CTS- V Blisters Nurburgring
By Ed
In testing today at Germany’s Nurburgring, Cadillac’s upcoming new 2009 CTS- V completed a lap of the legendary Nordschleife in 7:59.32. This blistering time appears to be the fastest ever publicly documented for a production sedan.
Cadillac is nearing the completion of testing for the highly anticipated CTS- V , the limited-edition high-performance model based on the award-winning CTS sport sedan. John Heinricy, executive with GM Performance Division and an acclaimed racing driver, piloted the CTS- V through its sub-8 minute lap. The car itself had no performance modifications outside of those planned for consumer production, which is scheduled to begin this fall.
Estimated at 550 horsepower, the CTS- V is at the moment going through the final stages of intensive testing and development. One of the realistic objectives of the Cadillac team is to make the CTS- V the world’s fastest production sedan, as a part of the overall goal to make the V -Series Cadillac’s ultimate expression of performance and technology. More updates will be released in the coming weeks as testing is finalized, including the car’s certified SAE power ratings, acceleration specifications and U.S.-market pricing.
Video documentation of the car’s breakthrough Nordschleife performance will be posted here in the coming days. Stay tuned.

Dealer in SoCal?
Can anyone recommend a good salesperson in the Southern California area? I have been very disappointed with the two people I have spoken to so far.
thanks, and please respond by PM if necessary.
Discontinued
I currently have a 2005 SRX which I do like. I'm kicking around the idea of getting a 2008 model, however I read somewhere that they were going to discontinue the model in 2009 and replace it with either a new model or a CTS wagon.
Anybody hear or read anything like this?
No Distributor Signal- '92 STS
Hello All,
I could really use a little input form you all. Recently, my '92 STS has intermitently quit running, or refused to fire up- ran the codes...a few to choose from, but the problem seems to be...
E012- No Distributor Signal (Current anytime it won't run, as well as in History)
also in History:
E030 ISC Rpm Out Of Range
E052 PCM Memory Reset
E053 Distributor Signal Interupted
I052 Keep Alive Memory Error
R033 Steering Diode Shorted In Arming Sensor
R034 Dual Pole Arming Sensor Ignition Feed Open
Thought I should mention that the car did sit for a while with a discharged battery- dropped in a new one, and off we went. All was well for several weeks, then it wouldn't fire up one day (for my Wife, of course!).
Seems that it only occurs when the engine is warm, and if left to sit for a while it always starts. Only time it has stalled while driving is at a stop, and I think that's due to the idle being to low. If I keep it running, it seems fine.
Oh yeah, I'm proud to announce that I've just turned over 200,000 miles!
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Doug

Customer Satisfaction
Well,
It started off last friday, my wifes '02 lade was due for an oil change. I brought it to the dealer that morning to have that service done, and also to have the alternator/battery diagnostic check, because the voltage meter in the '02 was showing 17, rather than 14/14.5
Anyways, I get a call around noon that the truck was done and was ready for pick up. I left work and went back to pick it up. Next day my wife drove it to run errands and the Oil Light came on! It was now saturday, so the service dept was closed. I had to wait until monday morning to call.
I called and explained what happened and the service guy said the computer doesnt even show that the truck even had an oil change!! Yikes! So he told me to bring it in, which I did on tuesday!
I brought it in, and asked if I can get it done for free, since it wasnt my mistake, and that I am taking time off work to bring it in and pick it up, which I dont get paid for... Best he could do was give me 10% off... Whoop de doo.
After the oil change was done, I filled out the customer satisfaction card that we get from each time we bring it in for service work, and explained everything that happend, and that I wasnt too happy about it, because the job wasnt done the first time that I specifically requested. And that it also costs me to take some of my time from work to come back, etc.
Well, I got a call today from the service guy to let me know that the next oil change is going to be for Free!
Now that made my day! I am not trying to make a huge deal to save me $50 for an oil change, etc.. Its just that I believe it wasnt MY fault and that the customer should always be satisfied.. Note: I am a regular customer that bring in both of my trucks to this dealer everytime its due for maintenance, or any work that needs to be done...
Well, now that they called me back, I feel that they really DO care for thier customers, so I just wanted to say that i'm glad to be one of their customers...
Thanks to Vic Alfonso in Portland, Oregon.
Newbie questions
I'll be buying a new car in the next month or so and the CTS is at the top of my short list - along with the Dodge Challenger and the C6 Corvette. Yes, I know that those three are totally different cars but they're the ones I like.
The reason I joined this forum, which, so far, is impressive in it's knowledge and experience, is to get some idea of what to look for in a new CTS and what to look out for.
Pros and cons of AWD. Pros and cons of different suspension packages. Any other advice you might offer.
The CTS is, right now, my first choice of the three I mentioned but for the kind of $ I'll be spending I want to make an informed decision.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
