Rear main seal replacement?
Last weekend I was told by a shop that my rear main engine seal is leaking and would need to be replaced. I was told that they would need to drop the transmission in order to access and replace that seal... Is this true? I know that on other vehicles the rear main seal can be replaced by removing the oil pan without having to remove the transmission.
By the way I have a 2004 CTS with the 3.6L engine.

Modern vehicles have a one piece rear seal and you do need to drop the transmission to replace
I would look at the valve covers to make sure what's leaking by the rear seal is not running down from above.
