Post 3.6L Timing issues w/ Video & Pic Help

Just found the engine section of this forum. Anyways I have a 05 CTS 3.6L with 90,000 miles. Like most folks I had the burning oil problem, and clatter on cold starts. Long story short one morning I started the car, then it died. It sounded like a timing belt problem, so I did a compression check and as I thought there was no compression. See explanation below I really need help on this one.

    Video of car turning over.

    Video of compression test.

Video of engine cover off, turning over timing chain. I'm noticing the tensioner on the left side keeps clicking back and forth. I'm pretty sure this shouldn't' be that way. I haven't pulled the chain off but I'm thinking there may be an elongated link in the chain.

    Engine Cover Removed.

Re: 3.6L Timing issues w/ Video & Pic Help

I just followed the timing book the auto shop had there. If the book requires the timing marks to be aligned a certain way, then that's the way it is. Unfortunately, when I installed my belt the first time, the belt jumped teeth. by the time I tore it down again, I noticed the timing was completely off. The right bank cams were a tooth off and the crank was almost 30 degrees from TDC when aligning them. Follow the instructions and you can't go wrong. But as for special tools...I have never needed them. Just hold what you got somehow and replace the chain where it is. It is a good idea to place the engine where the book tells you, like TDC just for a reference point though. helped me out a lot.

OK, the 3.6L has 3 chains, not a belt, but thanks for sharing. For others, please follow this link to see serious issues with the GM-supplied service information - specifically the timing chain diagrams:
