Gabriel HiJackers, or Monroe adjustable shocks - which is better? So, I don't blame you if you're totally sick of me and don't feel like answering, but, which one is better? I'd heard a lot of good things about the Monroe's, and was planning on getting them, but today my mechanic said he used to use Gabriel hijackers in drag racing, and likes them more. So, which would you go with?

How old is your mechanic? We used to use Hi-Jackers in high school to stuff oversized tires on the rear but handling sucked. Are you going to drag race? Adjustable shocks control dampening but don't lift. It depends on your application.

Re: Gabriel HiJackers, or Monroe adjustable shocks - which is better?
Ok, I forgot this isn't the rear wheel drive forum, everybody there already knows. I'm getting adjustable air shocks to slightly lower the rear of my '79 CDV and still have it adjustable. no intent if raising it what so ever. That's my problem now, the rear rides too high because of a set of old coil overs installed. So I want it lower.
My mechanic is in his 50s I'd say, but he knows what he's talking about.
So, which one?

I used to use hijackers back in the day too.... the main difference from what I remember was, the hijackers encased the whole airbag lift assy in a metal shroud (like current delco's) & the monroes were just out in the open.... the gabriels lasted longer & didn't dryrot & crack nearly as much as the monroes would have & were generally regarded as "better"

Yeah, it's cool. I just meant that he tries to stay on top with new products.
I guess I'm still on decided. Warranty would be a good place to start I guess, but right now I'm leaning towards hijackers

Back in the Dark Ages I had a pair of Air Lift bags stuffed in the rear springs of a '65 Chevelle Malibu SS 327c.i./350h.p. Raked, it looked like hell and handled worse.....OK in a straight line on a pool table, though........
