Noise from front wheel - Wheel bearing?

    Hi!

When I make left turns there is a whining noise, similar to the one the powersteering does when you put the steering wheel to far to one end.
This sound is not that loud.

Does anybody know what is causing this sound?
Is it the wheel bearing, is there anyway to tigthen the bearing?

    Sorry for the poor english.

    /De_Ville from Sweden.

PS. I searched the forum but I had no luck.

That sounds like a bad bearing. The bearing can't be tightened, only replaced as an assembly.

    Alrigth.. is that asembly expensive?

Is it possible to do it by yourself, or does it require special tools?

Anyone that already has done it? How was it?

The wheel bearing will be around $100 for an aftermarket one, and near $150 or more for a AC Delco part.
I just changed the front wheel bearings in my 1994 Deville about 2 months ago. It's not that hard, but you will need a very large socket to get the hub nut off. It's around a 32mm if I remember right. You will also need a two prong puller to pull the hub off the axle.

Oh that expensive.. well,´I will do anything for the caddy to feel alrigth :-)
is that price for only one side then?

The socket is no problem, I got that size already.

What do you mean by "two prong puller"
    something like this?

    or this?

Because these two tools is no problem either.

Yes, that price was for one bearing! They are pretty expensive. If you are unsure if that's what is making the noise, take it to a shop to confirm.
And either one of those pullers will work fine. The center screw pushes on the axle shaft, while the arms pull the bearing hub off of it.

The 3 prong puller will work better. If the noise is when turning left, then the right bearing is the culprit. Confirm it by driving straight and swing the wheel left and right. A bad bearing will usually growl when loaded and quiet down when unloaded. When I did one on my '92 Deville I was in and out in less than an hour.
