I have to press about halfway to get significant breaking and my front break makes noise when coasting to a stop, but no noise when I break harder. Either way I think it's time to replace them?
I'd pull the wheels and make a visual inspection. Best way, as you know exactly where you stand. Just look through the inspection hole in the top of the caliper.
