'96 STS Strut Advice Sought
Is there a way to definitively determine if new front/rear struts are needed? I have 180,000 miles on my '96 STS and the ride seems diminished and it sort of clunks its way over road imperfections. If I replace the fronts, should the rears be done also? I presume from previous posts that going with passive struts is the way to go due to cost, what brand is best? Is installing a do it yourself project or something best left to a competent mechanic? Thanks in advance for your info. Larry

Re: '96 STS Strut Advice Sought
Find an honest front-end shop and get an estimate. Go from there. With those kind of miles and the ride you describe, it's likely you have strut and bushing wear. You may get by with fixing one or the other.
