    Cracked tires and sitting tires

I'm looking at a 1991 Brougham with the Original Uniroyals on them, with the spoke wheels. 20,000 miles on the car, so the treads are probably barely used. The seller says they are a little cracked from age. I'd like to drive the 300 miles from where he is to my place, at which point I'd transfer over the rims and tires I have on my 87 Brougham which are brand new tires, but...it's been sitting garaged a few years except for maybe twice a year moving it. Longest my 87 caddie sat without moving it was 9 months I think. Anyhoo...Would the sitting for long periods without moving damage the tires in any way? And would 300 miles on the old but barely used cracked tires be too much? I'd like to keep the original tires and rims for shows, should I take it to any.

Just pasting Nightwolf's reply here as well.

wow! those are the rare factory spoked wheels... nice.

Eh, the Uniroyales are nothing special... the poor mans Vouge really, I don't
think they are worth keeping for shows. I would just get a nice set of white
walls on those nice rims and be happy.

the old cracked tires definitly are not safe.... but I personally *would* make a
300 mile trip on them... but I am known to do stupid things sometimes..... I
would just say to avoid insterstate traffic at rush hour, do not go at high
speeds, keep extra safe following distance etc... basically ask your self, if
you were to get a blow out at this speed and the driving conditions, could you
safetly bring the car to a stop on the side of the road?

Otherwise, looks like a great car

don't think u will make it...dry/cracked tires and a 300 mile drive..the heat generated by the road will blow one of them out...why chance it...take the tires u want to swap with and install them on the car 4 the ride..

The car was sold. My hesitation about picking it up etc. and someone else snatched it. Even worse, is that he probably sold for less than I was offering. Ahh well!!! The search continues.

Just in case, if anyone knows of a White on White 1991-1992 5.7 Brougham (with or without spoke wheels) let me know!
