I have 115,000 miles on this car. The inservice date was August 2000. My question is do the struts need changed? They are 5 years old and with the mileage don't they wear out? The dealer says don't waste the money on struts. I plan on keeping the car for another 100,000+ miles. Anyone have any experience or thoughts?

Re: Struts on a 2001 DeVille DTS
If the car seems to be riding fine, your struts are probably still fine. On the other hand, if you are getting alot of bouncing, bottoming, they may need to be replaced. Try the bounce test. Put your hands at one corner of the car, and push it down vigorously, about three times. Get that corner of the car moving up and down pretty good. Stop bouncing the car, and observe how many times it will move up and down by itself. Usually 1-2 times will mean that the struts are still doing thier job. If the car still is moving more than that, the struts are bad, and need to be replaced. Do each corner, and go from there.
