Old tires on 2006 DTS Performance

I'm just purchased a 2006 DTS Performance with the original tires still on them but with less than 24k miles on them. The tires look fine and have plenty of tread left.

I take delivery on Wednesday so I haven't driven the car at length.

Should I invest in new tires? Are these tires still safe?

Staying with the 18" rim are other sizes possible other than the stock 245/50/18?

The answer will vary depending in who you ask, but multiple countries' governments and/or vehicle safety administrations require replacement or professional inspection after 5-6 years.

I would definitely replace them. They've at very least hardened by now. Less traction and harsher ride.

8 year old (those tires are at least 8 years old) tires are a liability.
