    Noise from rear

Have a 04 cts 3.6. I've noticed over the last few weeks it's making a howling from the left rear. It sounds like a wheel bearing but there is no play in the bearing.

    Re: Noise from rear

First thing I do with a howl is to rotate the tires to see if it was the tire. Bearings can howl and not show play in them. I check wheel bearing with 2 people if no obvious movement, it can be difficult if tire is flexing a little to see or feel movement unless you're under it looking whie someone moves the tire(12 and 6)

I checked the tires first. They are all good. Had the car on the lift it is tight there is no movement in the bearing and it seems to spin freely. A friend thinks it might be the cv axle but it doesn't make sense to me.

It is possible that the bearing is dry, and has no play yet.

I checked them. I run a tire shop there is no cupping or feathering. Tires are perfectly smooth. As far as being dry idk it's a sealed hub assembly I guess it could be possible but not sure.

Really? I always thought there had to be play. It's annoying

So I replaced the LR hub assembly and the noise is gone. There was no play but a ton of noise.
