Please stop laughing so hard, I know what you're thinking............

First, I am a Honda mechanic.

My mother-in-law has a 97 Cadillac DeVille w/75,000 miles. She was involved in a severe crash last month where she was sitting in traffic when a car slammed in to her from behind, forcing her car into the back of the car in front of her. The day she picked her beloved Cadillac up from the body shop, she was getting an audible warning, something like, 'Check Steering System'..............A warning she'd never heard before. Other than the audible warning, she says there are no noises, leaks or other steering problems, in fact, the power steering is working just fine.

Back to the body shop who can't diagnose it so they take it to a Cadillac dealer. 5 days later the body shop calls and says the steering worm valve has busted, it's not related to the accident and will cost you $1200. They also told her this is a common problem with this model.

Can anyone please give me some guidance here? I searched this forum and Yahoo for steering worm and got nothing.

HELP!

Mike
